Burial of Mary Ellen Blackburn to Be In Grantsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Mary Ellen Blackburn passed away at the home of her son, George S. Blackburn, Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock, March 16, 1936.
The body was taken to the Bowden Funeral Home, where it will remain until funeral services, which will be held at Purdin, Wednesday afternoon, at the Christian church at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. C.W. Cornn, of this city. Burial will be made in the Grantsville cemetery.
Mary Ellen, daughter of Silas and Charlotte Hale, was born in Mendota, Illinois, November 3, 1851. She came to Missouri with her parents when a child and resided on a farm east of Purdin. She was united in marriage with James W. Blackburn, of the same community, September 4, 1879, and to this union eight children were born, seven of whom survive. They are J.S. Blackburn, of Brookfield; Anna B., recently of Kansas City; Silas M., Harrison W., and George s., of the home neighborhood; Mrs. E.F. Woolf, of Omaha, and Lottie Blackburn, of Ann Arbor, Michigan. John A. died at the age of seven years.
The husband preceded his wife in death February 3, 1924. Beside the sons and daughters, she leaves one brother, Charles Sumner Hale, of Kansas City.
Mrs. Blackburn was an ardent church worker, a good neighbor, a loving mother and had a host of friends, who, along with relatives, mourn her departure.
