    • John J. Morgan Crosses Divide
Funeral Services for Prominent Sheridan Pioneer Tuesday
John J. Morgan, widely known Sheridan county farmer, passed away Saturday at the Sheridan memorial Hospital, after an illness of but a short duration, death being caused by pneumonia.
His death marks the passing of one of the early pioneers of this region, he having come here in 1907 and filed on a homestead twelve miles west of Plentywood, which has been his home since.
Mr. Morgan was born in Michigan, March 23, 1854. When he was five years old he moved with his parents to Dayton, Wisconsin. At the age of seventeen he journeyed with his parents to Clay County, Iowa in a covered wagon, and a few years later to Laramie, Wyoming, where he spent two years. At the age of 24 he returned to Iowa and was married to Rhoda A. Crosby on March 30, 1879, at Trimello, Iowa.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sisters who reside in Iowa and eight children: Mrs. H.H. Harderson, Mrs. Chas. Madsen, Mrs. Hans Madsen, of Arhcer; Mrs. Elsie Kent, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mrs. L.J. Helgeson, Poplar, Montana; Mrs. Lynne E. Fortsch, Williston, N. Dak.; James Morgan, Royal, Iowa; and Frank W. Morgan, Anaconda.
A daughter, Mrs. Freddie Snyder, died at Storm Lake, Iowa, December last.
Shorty after Mr. Morgan was married he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. Later he became a member of the Free Methodist Church.
Mr. Morgan died Marsh 16 - just one week prior to his 76th birthday and two weeks prior to the date that would have marked the Golden Anniversary of his wedding.
He was a man widely known thruout this section of Montana as well as in the Iowa territory where he resided for many years. He leaves a host of friends who have esteemed him highly for his sterling character, neighborliness and progressiveness.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Clifford officiating.
Plentywood Herald, Plentywood, Montana. Thursday, 21 March 1926.
