Notes - Edw. Neblock Is Killed On Italian Front
Streator Youth Dies In Action During Allied Offensive August 25.
Another name was added to Streators' toll of dead in World War II, with the receipt of a telegram by Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Neblock, 811 South Vermillion street, from the War Department to the effect their youngest son, Pfc. Edward Neblock, 20, was killed in action August 25, in Italy.
There were no details beyond the mere mention that he had died in action on the date in question.
Pfc. Neblock had been overseas a little more than a month at the time, leaving here early in June to land in Africa, and subsequently participated in the Allied offensive on the Italian front.
His last letter home was about three weeks ago, written, it is believed, only a few days before he fell in battl.e
Before entering the service February 15, Pfc. Neblock was employed by the Owens Illinois Glass Company. He had attended the Streator Township high school, leaving in his sophomore year to enter the employe of Owens Illinois.
He is survived by his parents and two brothers, William Neblock of Idaho, and Robert, at home.
The Times, Streator, Illinois. Wednesday, 20 September 1944.
