- Charles Clark Crouch Jr., 82, of Mount Vernon, Ill., died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at home.
Born Nov. 15, 1924, in Belle Rive, he was the son of Charles Clark Crouch Sr. and Susan Blanche (Orrick) Crouch. He married Helen L. Smeathers on April 19, 1950, in Mount Vernon; she preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1994.
Charles fought in the Solomon Islands and the South Philippines in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated an underground telephone cable installation company.
He is survived by three sons, Thomas C. (Susan) Crouch of Bluford, Charles N. (Quit) Crouch of Spring Hill, Fla., and James H. (Jean) Crouch of Sycamore; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two brothers, Tom (Mary) Crouch of DeKalb and Bill Crouch of Sycamore; and three sisters, Elnore Gregory of Bluford, Mary Border of South Carolina and Ruth Ann Delaney of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and other brothers and sisters.
The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, at New Hope Cemetery south of Belle Rive. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
