- Mr. Charles David Hoke, 87, of Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, formerly of Walkersville, died Sunday, April 6, at his home.
He was the husband of Teresa Jamison Hoke.
Born Jan. 23, 1916, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late David Ira and Eva Catherine Hedges Hoke.
Mr. Hoke was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Early in his life, he farmed in the Walkersville area with his father.
He was a member of Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville, and a charter member of Glade Valley Grange. He was a member of Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co., serving as its treasurer for 45 years before retiring in 2000.
Mr. Hoke was active in the Glade Valley Food Bank, a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, and more recently enjoyed volunteering his services at Homewood at Crumland Farms.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Emily Roberts of Frederick, and Margaret Krow and husband James of Walkersville and Jensen Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Sarah Krow of Arlington, Va., Ann Roberts of New York, and Mary Montgomery and husband Kurt of Torrence, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Graham Montgomery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville, with the Rev. Dr. Gerald C. Hanberry officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
