Notes - MHR note: Indiana Louisa went to North Madison, Indiana to visit her relatives, who sent her to school there two years. While there she heard the song "Lourena" and thereafter called herself Lourena and her family called her "Lou". According to Ida Cronkhite, she was a pretty, lively girl and became engaged to William Vawter, a relative (called "Wid"). When she returned to Kentucky, "Wid" wrote her at intervals, saying he was coming to see her, but each time failed to appear. She taught a mountain school in Kentucky and in the spring of 1879 brough home her husband, Joe Enix (who after his second marriage began spelling his name as "Enochs").
Lou and her husband went to Illinois with her parents in October 1879 and remained there until after the first child was born. But Joe became homesick and they returned to Carter County, Kentucky and their second child was born there.
According to Ida Cronkhite, Lou contracted malaria and died. But Helen Gearhart Greers said her mother thought it had been TB that had caused Lou's death..
Lou's mother, Samanatha sent a postcard about her daughter's death to relatives in Missouri.
