Special to the Leader
Morehead, Ky., July 20. – Homer Kissick, 29, was held in jail here today on a murder charge in connection with the slaying of Jesse Harris, 28, a Rowan county farmer, who was shot to death Sunday night at Sharkey, nine miles west of Morehead.
Kissick, who surrendered later to Sheriff Mort May, was report to have said he killed Harris with a shotgun when the latter drew a pistol. Officers reported finding a loaded pistol under the victim’s body.
Both men were riding mules, Kissick said, and stopped to talk when they met on the road. They discussed the election and later found themselves engaged in an argument over whether a job could be obtained under the WCA unless the individual voted for “the right man,” he declared. The shooting followed.
Harris, struck in the chest by a shotgun charge fired at close range fell from his mule but staggered several steps before falling dead, the coroner reported.
