Notes - MRH note: David R. Hedges wrote from Mason County, Kentucky , 24 October 1859, that Addison W. Hedges Jr. had married a wealthy widow.
MHR note: in letter from Ida Cronkhite dated 13 February 1951. Addison W. Hedges died while the Civil War was on. He was living in Texas, and was drafted into the Confederate Army, and died in hospital. After the war, the widow and her two small sons and the 2 older by a former marriage, visited Kentucky. Early in 1880 Father got a postal card saying what had become of the boy. We learned later that Robert, age 18, rode away telling some of his mates that he was going to Illinois. He never arrived, but met with a band of bandits and was murdered in Colorado. Will's wife wrote to my father, 1923, of her husband's death. No children. She was Susie Terrell, and I think they cared for some of her nieces. A.W.'s widow was twice more married, and twice widowed but she died before Will did.
[note: Will is William Harrison Hedges, son of Addison and Sarah Gass.]
