- Missing man shot: A despondent man who was the object of a two-day search had been shot but the cause of his death won’t be known until an autopsy is completed, county coroner’s deputies said Saturday.
Sheriff’s search teams Friday afternoon found the body of Richard Edward Jones, 69, of Highland in a remote area north of Redlands. Jones was believed to be despondent over a recent medical problem, possibly cancer, said sheriff’s spokesman Jim Bryant.
Jones was last seen at 8 a.m. Wednesday by his wife, Dorothy, as he was leaving their Highland home on East Base Line, Bryant said. His body was found face-down about one-half mile southwest of where his pickup was parked near Greenspot Road, Bryant said.
