Charles L. Brooks Sr.
Charles L. Brooks Sr., 84, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his residence in Indianapolis.
He was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Indianapolis. His parents were Laben and Bertha (Cobb) Brooks. He married Mary L. (Selke) Brooks on Jan. 20, 1940. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Michael L. Brooks of Monrovia, Charles L. Brooks of Rockville and Robert L. Brooks of Greenwood; five sisters, Deloris Cowger, Judy Daugherty and Dorothy Hershberger, all of Indianapolis, Bertha Conley of Clarksville, Tenn., and Norma Jean Berndt of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.
He was employed by Eli Lilly and Co. in the plant security department for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
He attended Community Church of Greenwood and was a member of Southport Masonic Lodge 270 and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. He was fire chief of Perry Township from 1964 to 1966, an honorary Marion County sheriff and a special deputy of Indianapolis Police Department. His hobbies were golf, woodworking and camping.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
The Rev. Charles C. Lake will conduct a service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
