- JOHN MILTON TURLEY was born in 1819 in Montgomery County, Kentucky, and died in 1882 in Glencoe, St. Louis County, Missouri.884 He moved with his family to Gallatin County, Kentucky, and in 1845, at the estate sale after his father's death, purchased a scythe and cradle, a red cow and a bay horse.885 He was still living in the family home in 1850, and was listed as a laborer. in 1851 he and his brothers and sisters sold their share of their late father's property to the eldest brother, Joseph Turley.
Sometime after 1851 John M. Turley moved to Missouri where he married Juliann Helterbrand, widow of Thomas Jefferson Medley and daughter of John and Adelade (Younger) Helterbrand. Juliann was born in 1835 and died 2 July 1887 in St. Louis; she was buried in Glencoe Cemetery, according to the death certificate, but the grave has not been located. She married Thomas J. Medley in St. Louis 3 September 1854. According to a deposition by Alen Medly in Jefferson County, Missouri, Thomas J. Medley lived less than a year after his marriage and left no children. His widow subsequently married John M. Turley. To this date no record of the date of place of marriage has been found. It is possible it was in Lewis County, Missouri. In Lewis County, D. S. Hamilton and John M. Turley purchased land from Laban Pruitt. John subsequently sold his share in 1853 to Hamilton. The deed was filed 22 February 1854. The eldest son of John and Juliann, Charles Edward Turley, was born in Lewis County in 1858.
In 1862 John M. Turley and Julia his wife of the city of St. Louis for payment of $100.00 conveyed to Joseph Medley their title claims and interest as heirs of Thomas J. Medley in half of thirty-three acres and forty-hundredths of an acre.
John M. Turley, Juliann and five children were listed on the 1870 census in Meramec Township of St. Louis County. He was a farmer. 89' They purchased property in 1870 in Franklin County, Missouri near Pacific, from Aaron and Nancy Calvin, but sold the property two years later. john M. Turley and his son, Charles E. Turley, were listed in the St Louis Directory in 1876 and 1877. In the 1880 census John M. Turley was listed in Meramec Township in St. Louis County. From 1884 to 1887 Juliann Turlev was listed as widow of John Turley in the St. Louis Directory.
