Notes - Mrs. Lydia Gilkison Dies In Her Sleep
Mrs. Lydia Adron Gilkison, 75, died unexpectedly in her sleep early yesterday morning at her home, 1416 Main. She had been in her usual health Friday, sewing on a quilt and doing her housework as usual.
she was born in Fleming county, Ky., April 17, 1882, a daughter of James W. and Mary M. Lewman, and was married there Dec. 16, 1897, to Samuel S. Gilkison. They came to Atchison county in 1901, locating on a farm near Cummings, where they resided until his death Dec. 6, 1942. She had lived in Atchison since that time.
Surviving are six children, William I. Gilkison, Alvin S. Gilkison and Mrs. Albert &Myrtle) Meyer, all of Atchison; James A. (Dick) Gilkison, Horton; Clarence E. Gilkison, Kansas City, Kas., and Edwin E. Gilkison, Hoyt; 21 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Judith Walker, Atchison, and Mrs. Della Ingels, Garden Grove, Calif.; four brothers, Leonard and Walter Lewman, Cummings; Curtis Lewman, Muscotah, and Marvin Lewman, Hollywood, Calif.
Mrs. Gilkison was a member of the Atchison Methodist church and of the Mary-Martha Sunday school class. Her hobbies were flowers and quilt making. She enjoyed doing things for her friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Stanton chapel at 2 p.m. tomorrow, the Rev. H.J. Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Six nephews will be pallbearers. The body is at the Stanton mortuary.
