Notes - Mrs. Melvina May, the venerable mother of O.D. and L.E. Wingfield of this city, died at the home of her daughter in Kansas City at 1:20 a.m. Last Monday. She left a husband, two daughters and three sons to mourn her loss. She was born in Greenup county, Kentucky, and was 66 years, 3 months and 6 days old at the time of her death. Funeral services in her memory were held at the residence of O.D. Wingfield at 3 p.m., April 2nd, Elder Colvin, officiating. At the close of the services the remains of the mother in Israel was laid to rest in the cemetery east of town. She joined the Christian church in Missouri many years ago, while a resident of Pleasant Hill and, while not affiliated with the church during her residence here, died in the faith. Her death was caused by bronchial disease.
Osawatomie Graphic, Friday, 5 April 1901, page 5.
[2, 3] - Note on Find a Grave:
Info from MaritimeLass (48512374): Her maiden name was Hunt, I believe. I also believe she married Charles Winfield in Greenup, Kentucky in 1853, and later married Caleb May in Osawatomie, Kansas in 1897.
[2] - LKH note:
Melvina married a second time to Caleb May (son of Blair May) on 31 Oct 1897 in Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas. It was a second marriage for them both.
1900 census
Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas.
Caleb May b. May 1831
Malvina May, b. Dec 1835, age
This may be the right Caleb May
