    • Mr. and Mrs. P. De F. Rhinehart had the misfortune to lose by death an infant child a couple of days.
The Weekly Pantagraph, Bloomington, Illinois. Friday 3 September 1886.

    • Near Death's Door.
Mr. Phillip Rhineharte is at his home on East Market street and is in a hopeless condition. Since taking to his bed he has been reduced to the thinness of a skeleton, one of his hip joints protruding through the skin. His body is a mass of running sores and his suffering so intense that his cries of agony can be heard at a distance. It was thought today that he could not live 24 hours. Mr. Rhinehart is an old soldier and he has been an invalid for many years.

A Well Known Citizen called Away From Earth.
P.D.T. Rhinehart After Eight Years of Intense Anguish Succumbs to the Angel of Death - A Sketch of His Life, Services and Career.
      From Wednesday's Daily.
Mr. P.D.F. Rhinehart died this morning at 8 o'clock at this home, corner Prairie and Market streets. The illness that terminated in his death was of eight years' standing and had caused him pain and suffering such as few men are called upon to have. During the early part of his sickness he was able to wheel himself about the streets. A few years ago he became worse and for a long time has been confined to his bed. The disease reduced him to a skeleton and made his last days on earth full of anguish. Everything possible was done to ease him and whn the end came there was the one consolation to soothe sorrowing friends, that his sufferings were ended.

Mr. Rhinehart was born in Middletown, Md., in the year 1846. When a lad he moved with his parents to Washington, D.C., and in 1872 came to Bloomington, where he has since resided. During the war he was engaged with his father in the transportation business. When he first came to this city he worked for the Melville paper bag company as foreman. He afterwards was engaged in the grocery house of Humphreys, Newton & Co. At the time he was stricken down he was an employe of the Alton shops.

His marriage to Miss Flora Lawrence occurred December 15, 1873, so that had he lived two days more he and his wife would have observed their twentieth wedding anniversary. To this union two children have passed away. Mr. Rhinehart has a mother and two sisters, Mrs. C.F. Heinecke and Mrs. Dr. L.T. Bremmerman living in Washington, D.C. Mr. Frank Lawrence of the postoffice and Mrs. Charles Stone are Mrs. Rhinehart's brother and sister.

Mr. Rhinehart was a member of the Episcopal church, of Damon lodge K. of P. and also a charter member of the local Uniform Rank K. of P. He joined this order 1868 in Washington, D.C., thus making him the oldest member of the lodge in this city. The funeral will be held Friday at an hour to be named later.

Mr. Rhinehart had a large circle of friends. He was of that nature and disposition that attracted men to him and his troubles have caused sympathy in the hearts of everyone. He was trusted and honored by his fellow men as few men are and leaves behind a clear and worthy name.
