    Charles W Bender, 64, of Whiting, Kansas, died yesterday at the Holton hospital, Holton, Kansas. He was born in Afton, Oklahoma, and lived in Whiting fifty-seven years. Mr Bender was a retired road worker for the Jackson County Kansas highway department. He was a member of the Methodist church here. He leaves his wife, Mrs Marie Bender of the home; a daughter, Miss Caroline Maxine Bender of the home; a son, Charles W Bender, Jr, Merriam; a sister, Mrs Gladys DeBusk, Stroud, Oklahoma, and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the Mercer Chapel, Holton; burial in Spring Hill cemetery, Whiting.

    Miss Bender, born in Goff, Kan., was a homemaker and member of the United Methodist Church, Whiting, Kan.
    She was preceded by parents, Charles and Perpecta Bender.
    Surviving: brother, Charles, Bella Vista, Ark.; nephews, Steve and Bill Bender; three great-nieces.
    Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Saturday, Springhill Cemetery, Whiting. Visitation: today and Saturday, at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton.

    Charles William Bender Jr, 74, Bella Vista, Arkansas, died September 16, 2007, at a Bentonville, Arkansas hospital. He was born July 27, 1933, in Whiting, Kansas, the son of Charles William Bender and Perpecta Marie (Hedges) Bender. He lived in Whiting in his younger years. Mr Bender joined the Navy in October 1952, serving during the Korean conflict. He was discharged from the Navy in 1956 and worked for newspapers in Topeka and Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1993. He was a Methodist. He married Grace D Chick on July 20, 1952. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, 'Bill' Bender, Topeka, and Steve Bender (wife DeAnn), Prairie Village; three granddaughters, Christa, Michele and Natalie. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with the Reverend Wayne Bartruff officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Spring Hill Cemetery at Whiting under the direction of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.

    BELLA VISTA -- Charles William Bender Jr, 74, of Bella Vista died September 16, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville. He was born July 27, 1933, in Whiting, Kansas, to Charles William and Perpecta Marie Hedges Bender.

    He lived in Whiting in his younger years, and after graduating from high school he married Grace D Chick on July 20, 1952. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked in Topeka, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, at the newspapers until he retired in 1993. He was a Methodist.

    Survivors include his wife, Grace D Bender of Bella Vista; two sons, Bill Bender of Topeka and Steve Bender and wife DeAnn of Prairie Village, Kansas; three granddaughters, Christa, Michele and Natalie.

    Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory, www.funermation.com, with the Reverend Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting at a later time.

    Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
