    Mary Gilkison Dies After Brief Illness
    Mrs. Mary Belle Gilkison, 73, 221 E. Ninth, died today at Ball Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Gilkison was born in Morehead, Ky., and had been a Muncie resident since 1943. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
    Surviving are her husband Russell; three daughters, Mrs. Wayne Day and Mrs. James Storie, Muncie, and Mrs. Carl Basham, Wheeling, W.Va.; three sons, Ottis H, Otto H., and Elwood E., all of Muncie; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Verna Hetlsley, Libertyville, Ill., Mrs. Elsie Cybul, Mt. Prospect, Ill., Mrs. Edith Andrews, Alameda, Calif., and Mrs. Evangeline Crabtree, Pueblo, Colo.
    Funeral arrangements are being completed at Parson Mortuary.

    Ottis H. Gilkison, 56, 105 W. Sixth St., died Friday morning at Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis. He was a native of Rowan County, Ky. and had lived in Muncie since 1941.
    Mr. Gilkison had worked for several local building contractors and was a member of Local 1112 Laborers’ International Union. He served in the Navy during World War II.
    He is survived by a twin brother, Otto Gilkison, Morehead, Ky. and another brother, Elwood Eugene Gilkison, Muncie; three sisters, Mrs. Carl E. (Leoda) Basham, Wheeling, W.Va. and Mrs. James (Eula) Storie and Mrs. Wayne (Ella Jean) Day, both of Muncie, and several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Parson Mortuary with Rev. Richard A. Veach, pastor of the Riverview Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory. Friends may call at the mortuary 7-9 p.m. Sunday and before services Monday.

    Otto H. Gilkison, 67, 1708 S. Jefferson, died Sunday at his home.
    A native of Round County, Ky., he moved to Muncie as a young man. He worked in construction and for Owens-Illinois Glass Co. He was a 20-year veteran of the Army, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Army in 1965.
    He was a member of the Tokyo Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Santa Fe, N.M., and the Shrine of Albuquerque, N.M. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    Survivors include two sons, Gerald Gilkison, La Fontaine, and Jeremy Gilkison, Germany; two daughters, Sandra K. Long, Indianapolis, and Judy L. Gilkison, California; a brother, Elwood Gilkison, Muncie; two sisters, Ella Day, Muncie, and Leata Basham, Wheeling, W.Va.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery.
    Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

    Ella Jean "Peggy" Day, 86, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, in Kissimmee, Florida following an extended illness. She was born December 3, 1927, in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Russell and Mary Bell (Skaggs) Gilkison, moved to Muncie in the early 40's, attended Muncie schools, and graduated from Muncie Central High School.
    She owned and operated Peggy's Beauty Shop for forty years prior to her retirement.
    Surviving are her son, Robert Lee Beaty, (wife, Jenny Kay) Orlando, Florida; her step-son, Steve Day, Lynchburg, Virginia; a brother-in-law, Tex Basham; Wheeling, West Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Pierceall (husband-Joe), Muncie, and Joyce Campbell, Moreland; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, Doak Beaty and Russell Day; three brothers, Ottis Gilkison, Eugene Gilkison and Otto Gilkison; and two sister, Eula Story, and Leota Basham. Parson Mortuary.

    Muncie – Elwood Eugene (Perk) Gilkison, 74, Muncie, died Saturday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
    He was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Bluestone, Ky., and had lived in Muncie most of his life. Mr. Gilkison worked for 30 years as a production worker for Borg-Warner. He was a member of Thanks to Calvary Church and the Warner Gear Sympathy Club. He also was a Red Cross tissue donor.
    Mr. Gilkison was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
    Survivors include a son, Stephen W. Gilkison (wife: Janice) of Indianapolis; two sisters, Ella Jean Day of Orlando, Fla,, a twin to Mr. Gilkison and Leota Basham (husband: Carl) of Wheeling, W.Va., and companion, Pauline Stephens of Muncie. Four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren also survive.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mary Belle Scaggs Gilkison; a son, Stanley E. Gilkison; two brothers, Otis H. and Otto H. Gilkison, and a sister, Eula Storie.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Parson Mortuary, with Pastor Dale Workman officiating. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
    Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
    Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County.
