    Larry Walters
    July 26, 1951
    December 5, 2016

On December 5th, an intrepid South Pacific explorer, technical theater wizard, and humorist, Larry Allen Walters, passed away. Though he was born in Kansas, he considered Tacoma, Washington, his home because his family settled there when he was very young. Following his service in the United States Navy, he pursued his passion for theater in earnest, first at Central Washington University and then receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Design and Technology from the University of Oregon in 1981.

Larry joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1981, where he was a mentor and teacher to many students and colleagues who remember him with respect and affection. Larry believed his greatest accomplishment at UNR was the design and construction of the Redfield Studio Theater in the Church Fine Arts Building. In addition to his work at UNR, Larry worked as a stagehand in many showrooms and theaters in northern Nevada, enhancing the theater experience for thousands of audience members over the years. Larry retired from the university as an Associate Professor Emeritus in 2012.

Aside from his work, Larry had a passion for travel, a love he shared with CJ, his wife of 19 years. Together they explored the South Pacific, South and Central America, and Alaska, and enjoyed numerous road trips across the United States. Larry had a lifelong love of jazz, the Oakland A's, and the Oregon Ducks. Most of all, he loved CJ. Together they experienced joy and sorrow, and she was by his side when he passed away.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Evelyn Walters, and his first wife, Joyce. He is survived by CJ, his sisters Cheryl Gower and Cathy Cooper, and many nephews and nieces.

A "Loud Shirt After-Party" will be held to celebrate Larry's life at a later date.
