    Services for Dewey Pierce, 58, farmer and carpenter for the Mowrystown community, were held Sunday at 2:30 P.M. at the Charles Roberts funeral home in Mowrystown, with burial following in Sugartree Ridge cemetery.
    He suffered a fatal heart attack Friday while working on a farm near Sugartree Ridge.
    He is survived by his widow, Lillie; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Harvey and Mrs. Velvia Griffith of Dayton, Mrs. Marie Donohoo of Vandalia and Phyllis, at home, and three sons; William and Dewey, of Urbana, and Joseph, at home.

    Velma Maxine "Betty" Pierce Griffith, 84, of Peoria, Ariz., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008.
    Betty was born Jan. 29, 1924 in Rowan County, Ky., the second daughter of Lillia Jane Ward Perce and Cyrus Dewey Pierce. Most of Betty's childhood was spent in Highland County, Ohio where she attended Sugar Tree Ridge Elementary School and Whiteoak High School, graduating in 1941.
    Betty and Ted (Roland Quentin Griffith) were married March 14, 1942. During the years they lived in Dayton, Betty supported the World War II victory effort by working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
    Betty is survived by her brother, William Pierce of Dayton; sisters, Marie Bundte of Pine Island, Fla. and Phyllis Wisecup of Cincinnati; her children, Deanna Jean Wallace of Seffner, Fla., Carol Wallace of Wickenburg, Ariz., Barbara Ferullo of Aurora, Colo. and Michael Griffith of Rock Hill, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren ; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
    Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her sister, Alma Harvey; brothers, Dewey Jr., Darius and Joseph; and her granddaughter, Michelle Griffith.
    Betty was not only a capable wife and mother, but also a talented musician, painter, seamstress and gardener.
    Services will be held at the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. Interment will be at the Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery alongside her husband.

    Dewey Pierce, 53, 7896 Surber Lane, died Sunday morning, July 6, 1981, at his residence.
    He was born Feb. 23, 1928 in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Dewey and Lily Ward Pierce.
    He was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, a veteran of the Korean War. He held a Doctorate degree from the Ohio State University and the Registrar for Southern State Community College.
    He is survived by his wife, Patricia Stebbins Pierce, one son, Richard (Rick) Pierce of Wilmington; two daughters, Mary Beth Bellamy of Cincinnati and Ms. April Lynn Pierce; his mother, Mrs. Lilly Pierce Baird of Hillsboro; two brothers, William of Lumberton, Joe of California; four sisters, Mrs. Alma Harvey and Mrs. Marie Donohue both of Vandalia, Mrs. Betty Griffith of Dayton and Mrs. Phyllis Wisecup of Hillsboro; and two grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Fierce officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery.
    The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

    Dayton Youth Killed
    Dayton, O., March 10 - (AP) - Darius E. Pierce, 18, Dayton, was killed today when his automobile went out of control on a rural road 15 miles southwest of Dayton and hit a tree stump. Pierce was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Pierce, who moved to Dayton a few months ago from Mowrystown in Highland County southwest f Hillsboro.

    Whiteoak High Grad Is Killed In Auto Crash
    Services Tuesday For Darius Pierce, 18, of dayton
    Injuries received in an automobile accident near Dayton Friday night claimed the life of a 1950 graduate of Whiteoak High School at Mowrystown.
    The victim was Darius E. Pierce, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Pierce, of 25 Brown Street, Dayton, all former residents of the Mowrystown community.
    Young Pierce was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth hospital, Dayton, at 4;10 A.M. Saturday, an hour after the accident.
    Riding with him was Donald Mason, 26, of the same Dayton address, who remained in serious condition today from injuries received in the accident. Mason sustained head, neck and torso injuries.
    The crash in which Pierce died occurred about 3 A.M. a short distance west of Germantown. The state highway patrol reported Pierce was driving north. The car approached a left-hand curve, failed to make it and plunged off the road.
    The auto rolled over "several times," the patrol reported, then landed on a stump with its top torn off.
    Pierce was an apprentice toolmaker at Frigidaire Plant 2 and had been employed there about six months. He and his family and moved to Dayton from Mowrystown about eight months ago.
    Funeral services were to be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. at the Methodist Church in Sugartree Ridge, with Rev. Eugene Riffle officiating and burial following in the church cemetery under the direction of Charles Roberts funeral home of Mowrystown.
    Besides his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Alma Harvey of Centerville, Mrs. Betty Griffith of Dayton, Mrs. Marie Donahue of Aberdeen, Phyllis Pierce, Dayton, and three brothers, William and Joseph of Dayton and Dewey Jr., at Ohio State University, Columbus.
    Mason had been employed for a week as a truck driver at the Gitzinger Trucking Service in Dayton.

    Burial followed in the Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery.

Phyllis was born September 15, 1943, in Hillsboro, Ohio. Phyllis attended Sugar Tree Ridge Elementary School and graduated from Mowrystown High School in 1961. She served as a Highland County court reporter before receiving her B.S. in Elementary Education at Morehead State University and her M. Ed. at the University of Cincinnati.
    Phyllis is survived by her Daughter of Loveland, Ohio; two Grandchildren of Cincinnati; three Step-Grandchildren; one Step-Great-Granddaughter; Special Friend Ted of Florida and Sister Marie of Florida.
    Preceding Phyllis in death includes her parents Cyrus "Dewey" and Lillie Jane (Ward) Pierce; brothers Bill, Dewey Jr., Dairus, Joe; sisters Alma Harvey and Velva "Betty" Griffith.
    A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 E. Main St. Hillsboro, Ohio with Pastor Kraig Walker officiating. Final interment will be at Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery alongside her beloved parents Cyrus "Dewey" and Lillie and brother Dairus.

    Bonita "Bonnie" Carolyn Pierce Walterbusch, 67, passed away on January 4, 2021, peacefully at her home. Bonnie was born to the late William Edward Pierce and Bessie Caroline Highfield Pierce on April 18, 1953. Bonnie was married to John Walterbusch and they lived together in Dayton, Ohio, where they raised their daughter, Tracey Lynn Walterbusch (Bill Levendusky). Bonnie graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1971, and from Kettering College of Medical Arts with an Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Wright State University. She was always quick to smile, and she made sure her family knew how much she loved and cared for them. She would, on occasion, send simple but valued gifts to her family to show that love. Her desire to make a difference in the lives of others is even seen in her death as she wanted her body to be donated to Wright State University Medical School for purposes of research and education. Her kind spirit could be seen in her generous contributions to the local food bank.

    Gary E. Pierce, 55, of Hillsboro passed away as a result of a massive heart attack and was found in his home Feb. 14, 2021.

    He was born Sept. 2, 1965 in Wilmington, the son of the late Joseph H. Pierce and Marjorie (Douglas) Pierce.

    He was a 1983 Hillsboro High School graduate. He went on to earn an associate of applied science in human services degree at Chatfield College.

    Gary worked as an advocate for adult individuals with disabilities as their job coach, helping them learn, accommodate and perform their work duties.

    Gary was loyal and kind-hearted and never knew a stranger. He always saw life sunny side up. He loved talking about cars and motorcycles.

    In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by his aunt, Patricia Pierce Hope of Hillsboro; several cousins, with one especially close cousin, Sherri (Wisecup) Smithson of Loveland; and a lifelong best friend since kindergarten, Dennis Irwin of Hillsboro.

    Burial will be in the Sugar Tree Ridge Cemetery.
