    Edward M. Pulliam, son of Thomas and Anna (Cassity) Pulliam, was born in Linn County, Missouri, October 31, 1871, and departed this life December 20, 1949, after spending the greater part of his life in the vicinity of Purdin.
    His passing came suddenly while visiting his niece, Mrs. Eva Helms, at Chillicothe, Missouri.
    Due to failing health, he spent the greater part of the past year with his daughter and family in Erie, Pennsylvania. He returned to Missouri less than a month ago.
    He leaves to mourn his passing, a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert H. Kroeger, a grandson Gilbert Edward Kroeger, a nephew, Karl Albert Falch, reared from infancy, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Bivens and Mrs. Etta Cady, and one brother, Charley Pulliam, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, William Pulliam, preceded him by death two years.
    Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Purdin at two o'clock, December 22, 1949, with Rev. W.A. Pollock, officiating. The song services were by Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, Mrs. Helen Cokerham, W.W. Western and Mr. Lyons. Pall bearers were Mack Molloy, Joe Eden, Robert Hoover, Oscar Thorne, Floyd Hardin and Mark Gooch. Interment was made in the Purdin cemetery under the direction of the Wade Funeral Home.

    Etta Lydia Pulliam Cady, daughter of Thomas and Anna Cassity Pulliam, was born May 25, 1877 in Linn County, Missouri and departed this life, August 4, 1957 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Gooch, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 9 days.
    She was converted and united with the Church of Christ in early life and was an active member as long as her health permitted.
    She was from a family of six children. Her father, mother, a sister Maggie, and two brothers, William and Edward, preceded her in death.
    She was united in marriage to David L. Cady, December 26, 1902. They made their home in Jackson Township for three years then moved to Purdin where she had kept her own home until a few days before her passing. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Mary Evelyn Hill of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Stella Mae Gooch of Browning, Mo., and one son Thomas David who passed away at the age of sixteen years.
    She leaves to mourn her passing besides her two daughters, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Bivens of Denver, Colo., and a brother, Charley Pulliam who is seriously ill at this time, and four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
    She will be long remembered by those who loved her best for her unassuming loyalty, her pleasing personality and her kind consideration of others.
    A Good Mother has gone to her reward,
    God saw the road was getting rough,
    He said to her, you've done enough,
    A crown you've won,
    For a life will lived and a work well don.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 6, 1957 at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church in Purdin, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E.L. Huchel. Song service was by Mrs. Rose Johnson and Miss Rose Chambers accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Helen Matkins.
    Casket bearers were Jess Pulliam, Jimmie Lorenz, Marvin Murrell, Leon Gooch, Kenneth Murrell and Loren Owens. Burial was made in the Purdin cemetery under the direction of the Wade Funeral Service.

    Charlie Pulliam, youngest son of Anna Cassity Pulliam and Thomas Pulliam, was born September 21, 1879, on a farmnear Purdin, Missouri, into a family of two brothers and four sisters, and departed this life August 7, 1957, at 11:00 p.m., on the farm where he had since he was two years of age.
    He attended the Brown and Pierce schools and grew to manhood in the same community. On February 20, 1916, he was united in marriage with Nora Gertrude Buswell. To this union was born two children, Mildred Irene and Charles Edward.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, the daughter, Mrs. Chester Smithers of Chillicothe, Mo., the son, Charles E. Pulliam of Purdin, Mo, three grandchildren, Norlene and Charlene Smithers and Charles Duane Pulliam, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Bivens, of Denver, Colorado, the oldest and only living member of the Thomas Pulliam family.
    Charlie numbered among his friends the entire community of Purdin and surrounding territory. He especially enjoyed fishing with some of the old timers of the community, having been unable to pursue his farm duties for several years due to a lingering illness. He was seriously ill for two weeks and two days before he passed on to his reward. He enjoyed having his friends drop in any time, and was noted for his musical ability to entertain with his banjo.
    He always said, "Our latch string is always on the outside," and his many friends and neighbors enjoyed this courtesy.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday afternoon, August 9, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Purdin, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E.L. Huchel. Song service was by Mrs. Rose Johnson and Miss Rose Chambers, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Helen Matkins. Honorary bearers were John Baskett, Harrison Blackburn, Athes Creason and Walter McIntyre. The bearers were Harold Buswell, John Tipton, Ray Pulliam, Jess Pulliam, Clifford Buswell and Elmer Shadow.
    Burial was made in the Purdin cemetery under the direction of the Wale Funeral Home.

    Lloyd Pulliam 63, former resident of Sioux Falls, died at his home in Hawthorn, Calif., Monday suddenly. Mr. Pulliam was a merchant at Montrose and a salesman here before moving to California. Final rites are pending. A daughter, Mrs. June Cohrone, Hawthorne, survived. He was preceded in death by his wife.

Wallace was first married to Opal who died in 1930. They lived in Iowa and had a son, Wallace E. Helms Jr.

    Death of Wallace E. Helms.
    Through courtesy of Mrs. Maxine Helms, The Bulletin is informed of the passing of Wallace Helms, well-known former citizen of Purdin which occurred at his home in Chillicothe early Monday morning of heart trouble, following a brief illness. Mr. Helms was engaged in the restaurant business in Chillicothe and ha d a large regular patronage, near the Milwaukee railroad division. He was an excellent citizen and numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He was 47 years of age and is survived by his wife of the home, one son Wallace E. Jr., and two grandchildren of Moline, Ill.; one brother Dr. E.T. Helms of Eugene, Ore., one sister, Mrs. Lydia Seals of Purdin and other relatives.
    The body was brought back to Purdin for the funeral which was held at the Methodist church there Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.E. Corbin. Music was furnished by the Purdin male quartete. Mrs. Maxine Helms who was a relative by marriage of the deceased, and others.

    Mrs. Eva Murray, 75, died Thursday at Maryville hospital. She had been a resident of Skidmore for 20 years and was a former restaurant operator in Chillicothe.
    She was born in Linn County, May 10, 1910, a daughter of William Pulliam and Ella Elston Pulliam. She was a member of the Christian church.
    She is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles Burnett, Omaha, Neb., and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Price Funeral Home at Maryville.
    Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Purdin.
    Mrs. Murray operated a 24-hour cafe on Webster street, near the Milwaukee railroad depot, for years. It was a favorite eating place for railroad men as well as others.

    Thomas David Cady was born in South Purdin, June 28, 1912 and departed this life August 25, 1928, Age 16 years, one month and 27 days. He leaves to mourn his loss father, mother and two sisters Mrs. Evelyn Hammer of Purdin and Mrs. Stella Gooch of Chillicothe, Mo., an aged grandmother of Meadville, Mo., six uncles and an aunt Mrs. Henry Bivens of Loveland, Colo., and a large group of relatives and friends. Thomas as he was familiarly known among his playmates and young friends was well liked and highly respected by them all. He was a prompt and energetic pupil in his school and Sunday school work and his teachers and class mates will miss him greatly. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, Sunday afternoon, Rev. M.A. Hale officiating and a group of his schoolmates acting as pallbearers and flower girls. He was laid to rest in the Purdin cemetery.

    Mrs. Smithers was born Dec. 4, 1916 at Purdin, daughter of Charley E. Pulliam and Gertrude Buswell Pulliam. She attended school at Browning and was a graduate of the Purdin High School. On May 21, 1937 she was married to Chester William Smithers at Laclede. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Chillicothe Rebekah lodge. The couple moved to Chillicothe in 1950.
    Mrs. Smithers was a former Chillicothe city clerk and had operated the Missouri Motor Vehicle License bureau in Chillicothe. Mr. Smithers died Jan. 26, 1976.
    Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Pat (Norlene) Laffey, Chillicothe, and Mrs. Lewis (Charlene) Wisniewski, Excelsior Springs; a brother, Charles Pulliam, Purdin and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Palmer officiating. The casket will be moved to the church at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home.

    Charles Edward Pulliam was born April 13, 1927 in Purdin, Missouri, the son of Charlie and Nora Buswell Pulliam.

    He was united in marriage to Velma Lee Baskett on October 29, 1947 in Cameron, Missouri.

    Charles is survived by his son Duane Pulliam of Purdin, grandchildren: Ed Pulliam of Jefferson City, MO, Sherrill and Greg Libhart of Winigam, Lynn and Joe Turner of St. Joseph, MO, and Julie Cas of Brookfield. Also surviving are eleven Great-grandchildren, and one neice, Charlene Waniski of Springfield, MO.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Velma, two great-grandchildren: Makala and Cameron Liebhart, a sister: Irene Smithers, and one niece: Norlene Laffey.

    Charles was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two grandchildren, Makala and Cameron Liebhart.
