    FUNERAL RITES FOR HOBART PURVIS AT SLATY POINT
    Death claimed Hobart Purvis, 49, farmer, a veteran of the First World War at his home on the Licking River Road near Farmers last Thursday.

    Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Slaty Point with Rev. Herschel Moore in charge.

    Mr. Purvis was notified two weeks ago that his eldest son had lost his life in Europe.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was an operator at Jefferson-Smurfit for more than 40 years until his retirement and was a farmer most of his life. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ruby Purvis; one son, Marvin Purvis II of Middletown; five daughters, Judy Purvis and Marlena Purvis, both of Middletown, Linda Dearth of Trenton, Pamela Lawson of Kingwood, Texas, and Shirley Purvis of Gratis; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Clifford "Buck" Purvis of Morehead, Ky.; and two sisters, Francis Howard of Florida and Eldiva Kearns of Bowling Green, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond, Milborn and Willard Purvis; and two sisters, Mary Olive Perry and Lovel Swim. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton. John Swint, pastor, has been asked to officiate.

She loved to garden and was known as "Granny" to everyone who knew here. She was a daughter of the late Hobart Purvis and Minnie Moody Purvis. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Willard, Marvin and Milburn Purvis; and three sisters, Mary Olive Perry, Lovell Swim and Frances Stevenson.
    Funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
    Survivors include a son, Gary Lynn Hunt of Bowling Green; three daughters, Katie Tucker, Debra Sue Hunt and Diana Kay Lamastus, all of Bowling Green; a brother Clifford Ray Purvis of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Stephanie Carroll and her husband Lee, Justin Towe and his wife, Valeris, Gary "Lee" Hunt, Kendra Lamastus and Madison Hunt; and two great-grandsons, Grayson Lee Carroll and Wyatt Daniel Towe.
