    She was married to the Rev. W.T.Sparks. They were married May 9, 1912, and resided on Garr Avenue in Flemingsburg.

    Mrs. Sparks was a lifetime member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. She took membership when she was 11 years old.

    She was born in Fleming County Sept. 27, 1896, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Kirk Million.

    Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Edith) Mineer, Mrs. Paul (Virginia Lowe) Swartz, and Mrs. Melvin (Bernice) Porter, Flemingsburg, and Mrs. Kenneth Paul (Christine) Harmon, Tilton; two sons, Elwood Sparks, Maysville, and Clyde Sparks, Lexington; two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Iva) Maddox, Fleming County, and Mrs. Kenneth (Gladys) Maddox, Tollesboro; a brother, James Million, Clinton, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

    Services will be held at the Denton Funeral Home with the Rev. Sanford Doyle officiating at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

    Visitation at the funeral home wil be after 5 p.m. today.

Edna was born on March 9, 1925 in Mount Carmel, KY (Fleming County) attended Woodford Co High School. She married Clayton Brooks, Jr. on November 6th, 1946 and later moved to Lexington, KY. Edna enjoyed spending time with all her family. Her and Clayton enjoyed Square dancing with the Kentucky Hoe-downers, and clogging where they taught classes for the Lexington Parks and Recreation group and even formed a clogging team called the Kentucky Belles where they traveled all over performing for many audiences. She enjoyed camping at the Kentucky Horse Park in the summers as well as other campgrounds across the state of Kentucky. Her and Clayton went on numerous Shockey Tours across the United States seeing many sights. They also spend their winter months in Ormond Beach, FL after Clayton retired. She enjoyed the beach and sunshine. Edna was a member of North View Baptist Church in Lexington, KY. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County, Kentucky.

    She was born on April 26, 1926 in Fleming County, the daughter of William and Clarice Sparks.

    Bernice was a graduate of Fleming County High School. After graduation, she began a career at the RECC (now Touchstone Energy) and worked there for 54 years until she retired as the head bookkeeper at the age of 72. Though Bernice loved to work, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren even more.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Clarice Sparks and her siblings; Edith Mineer (William), Elwood Sparks (Ruby & Mitchell), Virginia Lowe Schwartz (Virgil & Paul), Clyde Sparks (Georgia), ad Christine Harmon (Kenny).

    She is survived by her sons, Melvin Porter Jr. (Darlene) and David Porter (Laura) and her grandchildren, Zach (Amelia), Gabriel, Jack, Levi, Lucy, Will and Violet.

    Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home.

    Christine worked at Dunbar Drug Store and Colonial Village Pharmacy. She was a member of Tilton Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Christine was very faithful to her church and to her family.

    She is survived by four children, Garey (Cyndy) Harmon of Tilton, Keith (Missy) Harmon of Flemingsburg, Paula (Curtis) Hawkins of Tilton, and Lisa (Phillips) Wagoner of Flemingsburg; six grandchildren, Derek (Bethany Price) Harmon, Blake (Betsy) Harmon, Daniel Harmon, Dustin Hawkins, Molly Hawkins, and Sara Wagoner, all of Fleming County; two great-grandchildren, Ty Hawkins and Claire Harmon; a sister, Bernice Porter of Oletha, KS; a brother Clyde Sparks of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Ray King of Cold Springs, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
    Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by : two sisters, Edith Mineer and Virginia Low Schwartz; and a brother, Elwood Sparks.

    Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Wilson officiated and interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Carmel, Ky., received the honorary doctor of laws degree at Alderson-Broaddus College here Monday at the 89th annual commencement. Dr. Million gave the commencement address to the largest graduating class in the history of this Baptist liberal arts college.
    A graduate of Georgetown College, Dr. Million received his master's and doctor's degrees at the University of Chicago. He has been broad professional experience as a teach in speech and biology, a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and editor of college and interdenominational newspapers and magazines.
    Since 1957 he has been the director of the department of Schools and Colleges of the American Baptist Convention. In this capacity he has lectured and assisted a group of over 30 Baptist colleges all over the nation, and yet continued his scholarly pursuits through the production of numerous articles, writing a series of filmstrips on the "History of the Christian Church."

    Barbour Russell “Bob” Maddox, 85, of Plummers Landing, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Care Center at Kenton Pointe.

    Bob was born February 9, 1932, in Mt. Carmel, the son of the late Russell and Iva Alice Million Maddox.

    Bob retired from Loveland Oil as a maintenance supervisor. He was also a talented wood craftsman and carpenter. He enjoyed farming on his Ford tractor, and watching the birds from the sunroom.

    Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Caroline Faris Maddox, whom he wed September 21, 1974; his children, James Maddox, Debbie Shrout (Earl Jones) and Mickey (Rick) Hickle; his grandchildren, Janeen (Brian) Wallingford, Jeremy (Lorrie) Eubanks, Chris Bradford, Alishia Maddox Corbin(Matthew Rankin), Phillip Faris, Jessica Faris (Richard) Traylor, Travis Faris, Cody Faris, and Shane Faris; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Audrey (Frank) Mitchell of Pennsylvania, Bernice (Lowell) Tackett of Flemingsburg, and Charles “Doug” (Nora) Maddox of Arizona. .

    Bob is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Beverly Maddox; his stepsons, Rocky and Bobby Faris; his father and mother-in-law, Dunbar & Minnie Faris; his siblings, Gladys Opal Maddox, Richard Maddox, Garr Madison Maddox, Kathryn Coffey, Mabel McGee, Virginia Miller, Bill Maddox, Elizabeth Maxine Maddox, Carolyn Ruth Scheffler, Nancy Kay Hardymon, and Mary Ester Maddox.

    Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 7th, at Boone – Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse Hickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery.

    Pallbearers include Phillip Faris, Robert Faris, Earl Jones, Rick Hickle, Chris Maddox, and Brian Wallingford. Honorary pallbearers include Chris Bradford, Jeremy Eubanks, and Robbie Faris.

    Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

    Virginia Alice Miller, 80, widow of Clay C. Miller, Sr., passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

    Born May 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Iva Million Maddox.

    Virginia was a faithful member of the Dalesburg Wesleyan Church to which she dearly loved. She was young at heart and loved to play with her grandchildren to whom she taught to jump rope. She even rode rode a moped up into her 70's. Virginia loved to sew and she made a lot of her own clothes. Virginia loved her family very much but most of all, she loved the Lord.

    She is survived by: seven children, Linda S. Ross, Connie (Ronnie) Reeder, Clay C. (Joyce) Miller, Jr., Elizabeth "Betty" Ruth McRoberts, Audrey Joyce (Tony) Rucker, Jeffery Douglas (Linda) Miller, and Daryl (Sherry) Miller, all of Flemingsburg; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey (Frank) Mitchell of Pennsylvania, and Bernice (Lowell) Tackett of Flemingsburg two brothers, Bob (Caroline) Maddox of Fleming County, and Doug (Nora) Maddox of Arizona; a son-in-law, Robert Newman of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Dennis and Pamela Newman; a granddaughter, Tabitha Himes; and ten brothers and sisters.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home (formerly known as Denton-Workman Funeral Home). Rev. Aaron Riley officiated and interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

    Pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearer was Timothy Scheffier.

    Letha Bernice Maddox Tackett went home to be with Jesus on Monday evening, August 13, 2018, with her family by her side.

    Born on February 29, 1940, in Mount Carmel, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Russell Abram and Iva Alice (Million) Maddox.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Richard Maddox, Ida Kathryn Coffey, Virginia Alice Miller, Mabel Frances McGee, Bill Maddox, Bob Maddox, Carolyn Ruth Scheffler, and Nancy Kay Hardymon.

    She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Lowell “Zip” Tackett; her children, Teresa (Rocky) Hardymon, Mari Beth Tackett, and David (Tonya) Tackett; her grandchildren, David Austin Tackett and Bethany Nicole Grimes; her siblings, Doug (Nora) Maddox of Arizona, and Audrey Grace (Frank) Mitchell of Pennsylvania; along with many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

    Bernice was a follower of Jesus Christ from the age of 10 and had the gift of serving others. She manifested this gift in many ways over the years from leading church youth groups to teaching Sunday school. Her faith was strong and many in the family benefited from her encouragement and Christian witness over the years.

    For many years she worked at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide. She graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in Education and was a Special Education teacher in Lewis and Fleming Counties. She found joy in her students and purpose in meeting their needs.

    Her grandchildren remember having many play adventures with Grandma. When they came to visit, work was forgotten, and the important things such as playing dress up, acting out plays and “marching” to the park became the priority.

    A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 17th at Fleming County Cemetery with Chaplain Keith Sergent officiating.

    Pallbearers include David Tackett, Austin Tackett, Rocky Hardymon, Chris Maddox, David Wilson, and Rajiv Rodrigues.

    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any memorial gifts be donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (online www.alz.org or by mail P O Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011) or Hospice of Hope (909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Kentucky 41056).
