    Flemingsburg, Ky., June 4- William Robert Million, 87, Fleming county farmer, died at 5:15 p.m. today after an illness of two years at his resident at Mt. Carmel. A native of rowan county, he was a son of the late James Lake and Almair Gilkison Million and was a member of the Wallingford Methodist church.
    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirk Million; four daughters, Mrs. W.T. Sparks, Flemingsburg; Mrs. Paul Carpenter and Mrs. Russell Maddox, both of Fleming county, and Mrs. Kenneth Maddox, Covington; three sons, Ernest Million, Lexington; Aubrey Million, Fleming county, and James Million of Laurens, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Grover Bishop, Lexington; Mrs. Thomas Kirk, Cincinnati, and Mrs. William Kirk, Lexington; 43 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (standard time) Wednesday at the Mt. Carmel Methodist church by the Rev. Earl Adamson. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery. The body is at the residence.

    U.S. Million is another of the Belton”flu” patients who has gone on “the long journey.”
    Mr. Million came here last fall to spend the winter months so his children could attend the Belton school. Some days ago the whole family, father, mother and four children, were stricken with the “flu” and have been seriously ill.
    Death came to Mr. Million Tuesday night. The rest of the family are believed to be on the road to recovery.

    A paper was circulated here in town, one day last week, by J.E. Urton, one of our big-hearted citizens, and about $50.00 was raised, in a short time, to help in defraying the funeral expenses of U.S. Million, who died in Belton on Tuesday of last week from pneumonia, following the “Flu.” Mr. Million’s house was a few miles south of Peculiar, but his family was spending the winter in Belton for the children to attend school. Since his death, his wife and one of the children have died from the same disease, and other members of the family are still very ill. The family came to Missouri, a few years ago, from Kentucky, and he spent several years on the G.B. Simmons farm, in the vicinity of Raymore, raising tobacco. The member of the family have the sympathy of all, in their deep sorrow.

    Mrs. Carpenter died Friday in a Maysville hospital.
    Survivors besides her husband include three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Bishop and Mrs. Laura Kirk, both of Lexington, and Mrs. Alma Kirk, Cincinnati; a brother, William Million, Fleming county; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Love, Dover, and a grandson, Alva Edward Love.

    Survivors include seven sons, William Kirk, Robert Kirk, Kirby Kirk and Benjamin Kirk, all of Lexington; James Kirk and Robert Kirk, Houston, Texas, and Greely Kirk, Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Kemble, Lexington, and Mrs. Willard McKenzie, Wilmington, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Bishop, Lexington, and Mrs. Alma Kirk, Cincinnati; 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
    The body was taken to the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home.

    Levi Riley Gilkison, 88, died this morning at 6 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Antle, 410 Russell St.

    For 36 years, he lived at Sweet Water, Ill, where he farmed and worked as a section hand for the Chicago & North Western railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1935 after working 20 years.

    Born in Flemingsburg, Ky. on June 24, 1864, he was a son of Burgess and Harriet Million Gilkison.

    He married Lina Pendleton in Kentucky on Dec. 27, 1888.

    Surviving are his wife; six daughter, Mrs. Edith Montgomery, of Greenview, Ill.; and Mrs. Walter Snyder, Mrs. Robert Fitzgerald, Mrs. Paul Cantrall, Mrs. John Kerr and Mrs. Antle, all of Peoria; three sons, Alvin, of Greenview; Irvin, of Compton, Calif.; and Isaac, of DeKalb; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Reedes, of Chatham, Ill. and Mrs. Etta Blakemore, of Marion, Ind.; one brother, Russell, of Sweetwater; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were at the Church of Christ in Sweet Water.

    Interment was in Sugar Grove cemetery.

    Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William (Edith) Mineer, Mrs. Paul (Virginia Lowe) Swartz, and Mrs. Melvin (Bernice) Porter, Flemingsburg, and Mrs. Kenneth Paul (Christine) Harmon, Tilton; two sons, Elwood Sparks, Maysville, and Clyde Sparks, Lexington; two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Iva) Maddox, Fleming County, and Mrs. Kenneth (Gladys) Maddox, Tollesboro; a brother, James Million, Clinton, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

    Services will be held at the Denton Funeral Home with the Rev. Sanford Doyle officiating at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

    Mrs. U.S. Million died Tuesday and with the body of her 9 month’s old baby will be shipped to Kentucky, for burial beside the body of the husband and father which was shipped to Kentucky last week. Five orphan children are left and will find homes with relatives in Kentucky.

    Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Bishop of 632 East High street have been notified that their son, Cpl. Grover C. Bishop, 32, died April 29 in Germany. The message did not state the cause of death.
    Corporal Bishop had seen seven months of active service with General Patton’s Third Army and fought in the Battle of Bastogne. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and other commendations.
    The soldier took basic training at Fort Bragg, N.C., Camp Hood, Texas, and Camp Shelby, Miss. He has two younger brothers in service.

    Miss Mary Lee Bishop, 21, formerly of Lexington, was fatally injured Friday when she was struck by an automobile in Chicago. She received a fractured skull, compound leg fractures and other injuries, and died at Passavant hospital in Chicago without regaining consciousness.
    Miss Bishop lived in Lexington with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Bishop, until the family moved to Fleming about a year ago. Less than a month ago she went to Chicago. Her body will be brought to Lexington Tuesday and will be taken to the home of her aunt, Mrs. William Kirk, 327 south Spring street. Funeral services will be held at the Church of God on north Limestone street at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev.C.H. Rice will officiate. Pall bearers will be Clarence Littrell, Henry Littrell, Arvid Grayson, William Flynn, Darnell Million and Robert Kirk.

    Petersburg – Marvin L. Norton, 93, of Symsonia, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Parkview Nursing Home in Paducah, Ky.
    He retired as the caretaker of Glendale Church of God in Indianapolis.
    He was a member of Oaks Road Church of God in Paducah.
    Surviving are a daughter, Marvelyn S. Norton of Chantilly, Va.; a son, Larry L. of Symsonia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Audrey Belle (Elkins), died in 1981.
    Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. EST Wednesday in Walnut Hills Cemetery.
    Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Home.

Prior to that he had been with the Rock Island Arsenal and had been a salesman with Link Belt Co. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

    Survivors include: his widow, Virginia; a brother, James, Chula Vista, CA; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Yates, Indianapolis, IN, and Mrs. Jacob Schroeder, Silver Springs, MD.
