    Elderly Pedestrian Struck By Auto Dies
    Victim, aged 71, dies at hospital few hours after mishap
    The victim of his second traffic accident at the same intersection within six weeks, John Abbay, 71, of 744 East State street, died at Seaside hospital yesterday afternoon from injuries sustained at 10:15 o’clock yesterday morning when hit by a car at Olive avenue and State street.
    Abbay was struck by a car driven by R.E. Orcutt, 729 St. Louis avenue. The motorist reported to police that his attention was attracted as he approached the intersection by a car pulling away from the curb. When he looked back the elderly pedestrian was in the path of his car, Orcutt reported.
    Death unexpected
    Head injuries were suffered by Abbay but his injuries were not considered serious by attending physicians at Seaside hospital until several hours after the accident. Death resulted about 4 o’clock. When taken to the hospital Abbay appeared to be conscious and not seriously injured.
    In the earlier accident, about six weeks ago, Abbay was struck by a car at the same intersection but not seriously injured.
    The body is at the J.J. Mottell parlors. The widow, Janella, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Adams of Mexico, Mo., and two brothers, Geroge of Long Beach, and Will of Berkeley, and one sister in Boise, Idaho, survive. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Mexico, Mo., and belonged to the Modern Woodmen and the Knights Templar. He was born in California and resided here three years, coming here from Missouri. An inquest will be held at a date to be fixed by Deputy Coroner Arthur Donlin.
