    Memorial services for Jerry Lee White, 66, of Marietta, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at the First Baptist Church in Marietta, with Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.

    He was born April 17, 1935, in Cleveland, the son of William E. and Mildred Ruth Archer White, and died Monday, May 21, 2001, at this home.

    Mr. White had been a resident of Marietta since 1974 when he retired from the U.S. Air Force. He and Shirley Ann Keel were married in Marietta on January 2, 1959.

    He graduated from high school in Cleveland and then received an Associate Degree from Cooke County Junior College in Gainesville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force 20 years, receiving numerous medals and commendations. Amount those honors were the Air Force Commendation with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Air Force Longevity Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. White served overseas in Japan, Turkey, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand and Okinawa during his Sir Force Career.

    After retiring from the military, Mr. White was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1922 and also the American Legion Post 136. Mr. White also served on the Marietta City Council for six years, holding the office of Vice Mayor. At the time of his death, he was president of the Love County Military Museum. Mr. White was a member of the Church of Christ and avid hunter and fisherman.

    Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann White of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Lee and Donna L. White of Turner; two brothers, Charles D. White and Robert R. White of Sand Springs; three sisters, Shirley A. Blackwell of Cleveland, Mary Lou McClary of Tulsa and Carol Ruth Fennell of Sand Springs; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Dustin and Casey.

    Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Billy Richard White.

    Honorary pallbearers were members of the Love County Military Museum.

    Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
