William Monroe Gilkerson, 92, of Paris, KY, husband of Bessie Planck Gilkerson for 70 years, died Wednesday, March 18 at Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, after a short illness. He was a retired farmer, a native of Fleming Co. and a member of Broadway Christian Church, Lexington. He was the son of the late later Edison and Mary Alma McCormick Gilkison. Survivors other than his wife are two daughters, Ruby G. Whitaker and husband (Ira), Lexington, Loyce G. Dean and husband (John), Paris; one son, Albert "Al" Gilkerson and wife (Helen), Lexington; two sister, Beulah G. Maynard, Georgetown, OH, and Myrtle G. Gordon, Montague, MI; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas "Doug" Gilkerson, three brothers and eight sisters. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home by the Rev. David Woodard with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to William Gilkerson Memorial Fund, c/o Joyce O. Dean, 238 Grimes-Batterton Road, Paris, KY 40361.
