    Philippi, W.Va., May 30 (Special) - Elmer Garr Million, a native of Mt. Carmel, Ky., received the honorary doctor of laws degree at Alderson-Broaddus College here Monday at the 89th annual commencement. Dr. Million gave the commencement address to the largest graduating class in the history of this Baptist liberal arts college.
    A graduate of Georgetown College, Dr. Million received his master's and doctor's degrees at the University of Chicago. He has been broad professional experience as a teach in speech and biology, a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and editor of college and interdenominational newspapers and magazines.
    Since 1957 he has been the director of the department of Schools and Colleges of the American Baptist Convention. In this capacity he has lectured and assisted a group of over 30 Baptist colleges all over the nation, and yet continued his scholarly pursuits through the production of numerous articles, writing a series of filmstrips on the "History of the Christian Church."

He was affiliated with the South Elkhorn Baptist Church and was retired from IBM after 29 years. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Coyle Million, Versailles; his father, James A. Million, Clinton, South Carolina; one daughter, Pamela Million Mitchell, Lexington; four sisters, Elizabeth Elam and Ruth Rhodes, both of Clinton, South Carolina; Genoa Godby, Clinton, Maryland, and Geneva Meadow, Lakeland, Florida; and one brother, Elmer Million, Carlton, Oregon. Services were conducted at 2pm Monday, March 27, at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel by the Rev. James Shaw. Burial was in Versailles Cemetery.

    Clinton - Services for Ruth M. Rhodes, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pinelawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Gray Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Rhodes died Saturday, March 27, 1993. Born in Pisgah, Ky., she was a daughter of the late James and Addie Sparks Million. She attended Presbyterian College and was a speech therapist at Whitten Center and a certified minister. She attended Charity Christian Center.
    Surviving are an adopted son, Nickel Bagwell of Clinton, a brother, Dr. Elmer Million of Salem, Ore.; sisters, Elizabeth Elam of Clinton, Genoa Godbey of Clinton, Md., and Geneva Medders of Lakeland, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
