    Flemingsburg – Martin Luther Gilkison, 87, died at 7:04 p.m. Saturday at Hayswood Hospital, Maysville after a long illness. He was a farmer and landowner near Mt. Carmel. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church.
    Survivors are a son, Fantley Gilkison, Lexington; five daughters, Mrs. Ivy Fearin, and Mrs. Lona Tucker, Wallingford; Mrs. Hazel Humphries, Ewing, and Mrs. Eunice Strode and Mrs. Verona Bishop, Maysville; two brothers, F.E. Gilkison, Wallingford, and Ambrose Gilkison, Versailles; 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
    Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home by the Rev. W.T. Sparks and the Rev. Sanford Doyle. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Grandsons will be bearers. The body is at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Gilkison, two daughters, Mrs. William Tincher and Mrs. Joseph Adams, both of Versailles, three sons, Herbert Gilkison and Donald Gilkison, both of Woodford County and Leonard Gilkison Nicholas County, eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at the South Elkhorn Baptist Church by Rev. Henry Downing with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Gilkison’s grandsons will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Alex Reynolds, Lewis Maury, Lewis Hackney, Wallace Tilghman, Alfred Jenkins, Richard McGoldrick, Groom Taylor, Raymond Merryman, Harvey Stedman, Paul English, James Hellard, John Ritchey, Whitney Dunlap, Stanley Staton and Charles Million, Sr. The body is at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles where friends may call.

    Alvin Gilkison, 57, Atchison, Kas., collapsed and died Sunday on the campus of Northwest State College here.
    Mr. Gilkison and his wife were on the campus with their son, Donald Gilkison, who was enrolling as a freshman at the college. He suffered a apparent heart attack as they walked between buildings on the campus.
    He was an employee of the Kansas Highway Department, and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
    In addition to the son and his wife, Mrs. Bernice Gilkison, he is survived by one other son, also four brothers and a grandchild.

    Beulah Blanche Maynard, 86, of Hillsboro (formerly of Georgetown), died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Laurels of Hillsboro.
    She was born on May 17, 1919, in Wallingford, Ky., the daughter of the late Albert Edson and Mary Alma (McCormick) Gilkison. She was also preceded in death by her husband Emmitt.
    Survivors include one son, Charles Maynard and wife, Linda, of Hillsboro.
    Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Cahall Funeral Home, Georgetown, Ohio. Interment will be at Confidence Cemetery, Georgetown.
    Visitation will be observed from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

    Former Woodford County Sheriff Herbert Guy Gilkison died in his home on Clifton Pike Sunday. He was 79. Mr. Gilkison served as Woodford County Chief Deputy Sheriff from 1974 to 1977 under Sheriff Arthur "Bear" Gregory. In 1977 he ran and was elected as the sheriff of the county. He served until 1981. Mr. Gilkison was a member of the National Sheriff's Association and the Kentucky Sheriff's Association. He was the widower of Margaret Gormley "Pogy" Gilkison. Before going into public service, Mr. Gilkison farmed in Woodford County for 32 years. He also helped organize the Blue Grass Horse Pulling Association in 1953, and was its first president. Mr. Gilkison owned pulling horses, and won more than 300 competitions with them - including three world championships. Services for Mr. Gilkison are 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Leo Catholic Church. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
