    age 83, a resident of the Pisgah Pike, Woodford County, died Sunday at the Woodford Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was a farmer and a member of the South Elkhorn Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Gilkison, two daughters, Mrs. William Tincher and Mrs. Joseph Adams, both of Versailles, three sons, Herbert Gilkison and Donald Gilkison, both of Woodford County and Leonard Gilkison Nicholas County, eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at the South Elkhorn Baptist Church by Rev. Henry Downing with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Gilkison’s grandsons will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Alex Reynolds, Lewis Maury, Lewis Hackney, Wallace Tilghman, Alfred Jenkins, Richard McGoldrick, Groom Taylor, Raymond Merryman, Harvey Stedman, Paul English, James Hellard, John Ritchey, Whitney Dunlap, Stanley Staton and Charles Million, Sr. The body is at the Duell-Clark Funeral Chapel, Versailles where friends may call.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William "Billy Tincher, Jr.; two sisters, Catherine Adams and Edith Million and three brothers, Leonard, Donald and Herbert Gilkison. Survivors include four grandchildren, Kelly Newman, Ashley Dawkins, Heather Cox and Shane Tincher; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Janet Tincher and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington, Kentucky.

    Former Woodford County Sheriff Herbert Guy Gilkison died in his home on Clifton Pike Sunday. He was 79. Mr. Gilkison served as Woodford County Chief Deputy Sheriff from 1974 to 1977 under Sheriff Arthur "Bear" Gregory. In 1977 he ran and was elected as the sheriff of the county. He served until 1981. Mr. Gilkison was a member of the National Sheriff's Association and the Kentucky Sheriff's Association. He was the widower of Margaret Gormley "Pogy" Gilkison. Before going into public service, Mr. Gilkison farmed in Woodford County for 32 years. He also helped organize the Blue Grass Horse Pulling Association in 1953, and was its first president. Mr. Gilkison owned pulling horses, and won more than 300 competitions with them - including three world championships. Services for Mr. Gilkison are 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Leo Catholic Church. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Mrs. Adams is survived by, her daughters, Judy Adams, VA, and Joan (Tim) Drury, Hopkinsville; her sons, Jeff (Judy) Adams, Versailles, Jeremy (Beth) Adams, Versailles; her sister, Clarice "Duck" Tincher, Lexington; and her brother, Leonard (Jane) Gilkison, Carlisle; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph M. Adams, Jr. A special thanks to the Lincoln Unit at Thompson Hood Veterans Center. Gilkison, of Lexington, one daughter, Suzanne Gilkison of McKee, KY, one sister, Clarice Tincher of Lexington, grandchildren: Alisha Gilkison Rupp, Jacob, Clara, Christine, Caroline, Brennan Gilkison, Serena, Leland, Rivers, Curry, Christen Gilkison, Kasey Gilkison Moore, Collin, Cooper, Ellory, Kerrigan, and Collin Gilkison.
