  18. 26.  Vada Estep Descendancy chart to this point (5.Myrtie2, 1.Albert1) was born on 30 Aug 1920 in Morehead, Rowan County, Kentucky; died on 12 Apr 2019 in Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois; was buried in Diamond Lake Cemetery, Diamond Lake, Lake County, Illinois.

    Notes:

Visitation for Vada Phillips will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Interment will follow at Diamond Lake Cemetery, 1257 Townline Rd., Mundelein, Il.

Mrs. Vada Phillips, a former resident of Mundelein, IL, and beloved wife of the late Ridley O. Phillips passed on April 12, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 98 yrs. old.

Born August 30, 1920, in Morehead, KY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Peyton and Myrtie (Gilkison) Estep. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Janet Ann, four brothers; Howard (Lena) IN/KY, Ora (Jo) IN, Mitchell (Maude) KY, and Cleve (Mildred) OH, Estep and two sisters, Fanny (Beckham) Esham KY, and Eunice (Merlin) Jacobs IN. She was the last of the siblings.

Vada moved to Muncie, IN, in her early years to be with other siblings and found work at Ball Corp in Muncie during the Depression and WWII. There she met her husband Ridley, who was a Paratrooper in the US Army, married October 24, 1945, and started a family. She became a homemaker shortly after or before the Korean War ended in 1953. Together, they decided to make Mundelein their new home when Ball Corp expanded locations to Mundelein, IL. In 2017 she moved to her grandson, David and Lori’s home in Crystal Lake, IL. There she received the most wonderful loving care, enjoyed her retirement fully, and was treated like a Queen. She was thoroughly enjoyed and loved by all.

She entertained her children and grandchildren while they were growing up by playing her piano and guitar for them. She played from Christian songs, to boogie woogie, to her favorite Elvis songs well into her 90’s. She played her piano up to a couple of days before her passing. She was a master at cake decorating. The most beautiful cakes she created for every birthday, holiday and event for her family. For many years, she was a member of the African Violet Society of America. She had the most beautiful African Violets in her home nursery that she had great pride in and was a must see for everyone who visited. In her younger years, she played on an all girls baseball team. She always wanted us to find the newspaper articles on her team. She was an avid Bears fan! She knew the names and positions of every key player and watched every game. She always had great details of their last game for discussion. She did frivolous things as well. Like going for rides on the back of her son’s motorcycle when she was in her late 70’s. She was a colon cancer survivor of over 20 years.

A soft spoken, easy going, loving Mom, who always had a big smile and a big heart, was there for all of us to share with and to laugh with …even if only a phone call away. She taught us many things in life and to count our blessings. Her family knows they have been blessed to have had her with them all through the years.

She will be missed by her four loving Children; Lavonne (Doyle) Bell of Eaton, IN, Sharon (Anton) Brees of Hawthorn Woods, IL, Linda Born of Mundelein, IL and Ronnie Phillips of Mundelein, IL; her six Grandchildren; Steve Bell of Eaton, IN, Karen (Matt) Simmons of Muncie, IN, David (Lori) Kovac of Crystal Lake, IL, Tim Kovac of Lake Barrington, IL, Shane Phillips of Denver, NC and Brennan Phillips of Maricopa, AZ, her 18 Great Grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews.
