    Blanche H. Sherwood. RONCEVERTE - Blanche Hedges Sherwood, 98, of Ronceverte died July 25, 1998, in Shenandoah Manor, Ronceverte, after a long illness.
    She was a retired schoolteacher, member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, and a charter member of Ronceverte Woman's Club. Surviving: daughter, Margaret Lee Smith of Montgomery; son, Lawrence F. Sherwood of Oakland, Md.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ronceverte, with the Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Burial will be in River View Cemetery, Ronceverte. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Ronceverte. Charleston Gazette, Charleston, WV. Obituary published 27 July 1998. Published on-line 5 December 2003.

    She was the daughter of Lawrence and Blanche Sherwood of Ronceverte. Margaret was a registered RN and received her training at Charleston General Hospital, where she worked until she was married.

    Surviving are her brother; her son; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    As she had requested, her body was donated to the WVU Medical School in Morgantown.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory go to the Montgomery United Methodist Church, 319 5th Ave., Montgomery, WV 25136.

    Rev. Dr. Lawrence Franklin Sherwood, Jr., 93, of Oakland died on Friday, September 6, 2019, at Garrett Regional Medical Center.

    Born on December 13, 1925, in Ronceverte, WV, he was the son of the late Lawrence Franklin and Blanch Margaret (Hedges) Sherwood.

    He was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he obtained his Doctor of Divinity degree, and the Garrett United Theological Seminary.

    Dr. Sherwood was ordained an Elder in the West Virginia Conference of the Methodist Church in 1950. He served Main Street UMC in Petersburg, WV, Trinity UMC in Glenville, WV, St. Paul's UMC in Oakland, MD, and Trinity UMC in Bluefield, WV.

    He was also Superintendent of the then Lewisburg (now Greenbriar) District and Grace UMC in Keyser, WV.

    He had served on various UMC Conference and District Committees.

    A Methodist historian, Dr. Sherwood has written numerous articles on Methodist history, especially West Virginia Methodism and Bishop Francis Asbury and was the recipient of the Ministry of Memory Award from the Historical Society of the United Methodist Church.

    Active in his community, he was secretary of the Hospice of Garrett County Board of Directors, a member of the Board of the Garrett County Historical Society, a 50-year member of the Oakland Lodge No. 192 AF&AM, and the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lions Club.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel (Steiding) Sherwood, to whom he was married on December 29, 1947; children, Rebecca Fallon and husband Fleming, John Sherwood and wife Debbie, Martha Ognibene and husband Bart Thompson, and Mary Dreibelbis and husband Harold; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Susan Sherwood Schaumburg and a sister, Margaret Lee Sherwood Smith.

    JUDITH SUSAN SCHAUMBURG, 54, NURSE

    Judith Susan Schaumburg, a department store claims adjuster and nurse, died of cancer Wednesday at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Perry Hall resident was 54.

    Born Judith Susan Sherwood in Petersburg, W.Va., and raised in Oakland in Garrett County, she earned a nursing diploma in 1973 from Maryland General Hospital, where she was head nurse in a surgical floor.

    She later earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Baltimore.

    From 1981 to 1986, she taught nursing at Eastern Vocational-Technical High School in Baltimore County.

    She then raised a family and later was a claims adjustor for the May department stores.

    Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Lassahn Funeral Home, 11750 Belair Road in Kingsville.

    Survivors include her husband of 27 years, * Schaumburg, a Baltimore City schoolteacher; a son,* Schaumburg, and a daughter, * Schaumburg, both of Perry Hall; her parents, * Sherwood and * Sherwood, both of Oakland; a brother, * Sherwood of Mount Nebo, W.Va.; and three sisters, * Bertz of Hackettstown, N.J., * Ognibene of Short Gap, W.Va., and * Drebelbis of Cincinnati.
