    Jess Robert Hedges Died October 17 Near Cestos
    Jess Robert Hedges, age 71, passed away Sunday, October 17, at his home in the Cestos community. He had been in poor health for some time.
    Mr. Hedges was a pioneer of this section, having resided on the same place in the Cestos community for thirty-three years. He was widely known and it was with much sadness that his many friends learned of his passing.
    He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of the home; six sons, Jesse M. of Vici, Fay M. of Selling, Gordon of Vici, Elmer of Temple Arizona, Frank of Cloudcroft, New Mexico and Leonard Ray of the U.S. Army in service overseas; two daughters, Mrs. Norm Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy, both of Vici; besides other relatives and many friends.
    Funeral services were held at Richmond Christian church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Lowe of Woodward officiating. Burial was made in Sunnyside cemetery under the direction of the Shaw Funeral Home

    Word was received by Mrs. Robert Hedges of Vici, Wednesday from the war department, stating that her son, Cpt. Leonard Hedges, died June 7, 1945. In his last letter to his relatives, dated June 1st in Austria, said he was guarding S.S. troops, and further stated, “You might think the was is over, over here, but if you were where I am, you would think differently.”
    Cpl. Hedges, 27-years of age was inducted into service in February, 1941, trained in Field Artillery at Fort Bill and three other camps, before going to Fort Ord, Calif., and sent to the Aleutians for four months. Returning, he visited his relatives and then sent to Fort Bill for three months special training before he was sent in January, 1944 for overseas service in Italy, France and Germany. Other than his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Norman Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy, and five brothers, Jess, Gordon and Elmer Hedges of Richmond community; Faye Hedges, Seiling, and Frank Hedges, Taos, N. Mexico.

    Cpl. Leonard R. Hedges
    Cpl. Leonard R. Hedges, T/5, F.A., son of Lucy J. Hedges and the late J.R. Hedges, was born at Cestos, Oklahoma, on January 19, 1918, and died June 7, 1945, at Salzburg, Austria, at the age of 27 years, four months and 18 days.
    Cpl. Hedges received his education in the Richmond community and united with the Christian church at an early age.
    He entered the services of his country February 24, 1942, and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., until May of that year when he went to Fort Bragg, N. Carolina. Later that fall he went to Camp Carson, Colo., and from there back to Fort Sill for a three months Saddler’s Course. Then on to Camp Hale, Colo. In the fall of 1943, he was transferred to Camp Ord, Calif., and from there he went to the Aleutian Islands and was in the invasion of Kiska. He returned to the States about Christmas of the same year and after a 30 day furlough, went again to Fort Sill and from there to the European Theater of operation. He served in Italy, France, and Germany and Austria where he met his untimely death. Other than his mother, he leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Mrs. N.B. Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy of the Cestos community; and five brothers, Jess Hedges and Gordon Hedges, Cestos; F.M. Hedges, Seiling; Frank Hedges, Taos, New Mexico, and Rev. Elmer Hedges, Tempe, Ariz.

    Details of Leonard Hedges Death Received by Family.
    Details concerning the death of T/5 Leonard R. Hedges were received this week. Hedges died June 7th.
    A letter from the War Department disclosed that Leonard died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds while he was inspecting a 30-calibre at about 12 noon at Salsburg, Austria.
    When news of Mrs. Hedges’ death was received no information was given at the time, and the family had been, until now, uninformed as to the actual cause.

    The funeral for Duane T. Hedges, 85, of Seiling, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Redinger Funeral Home Chapel. Dennis Adair, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brumfield Cemetery.

    He was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Cestos to Fay and Beatrice Watson Hedges and died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, in Seiling.
    He graduated from Seiling High School in 1939. He married Elnora Elizabeth "Betty" Burchett Dec. 15, 1941, in Seiling. He entered the Army Air Corps and served during World War II in the 3rd Photo and Reconnaissance squadron in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged and returned to Seiling, and they moved to Stillwater in 1948. He earned a degree in agronomy at Oklahoma A&M. He and his brother owned and operated Hedges Brothers farm store. They built a feed mill north of town in 1960 and entered into a partnership with Dean Gaden. The business became known as Hedges and Gaden. He farmed and ranched. He was a member of Seiling American Legion Post No. 69 and a member of First Christian Church. He served as mayor of Seiling in the 1960s. He also served on Seiling Municipal Hospital Board, Airport Board, Seiling Housing Authority and was instrumental in getting cable television to Seiling.

    Surviving are one daughter, Cindy Smith of Canton; one sister, Anne Decker; two brothers, Wendell Hedges and Darwin Hedges, all of Seiling; and three grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Hedges, May 23, 1998.

    Wendell L. Hedges, 89, was born December 1, 1925, in Cestos, Oklahoma, to Fay and Beatrice (Watson) Hedges. Wendell attended Seiling School, graduating in 1945 as president of his senior class. Wendell and Patty met while attending Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University). Wendell graduated in 1950 with a BS degree in agricultural education. Wendell taught school in Nebraska for two years and then returned to Seiling in 1952 to go into business with his brother, Duane. In 1954 Wendell was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years in the Medical Corps as a medic, including a tour in Puerto Rico. Wendell enrolled in 1957 to pursue a master of science in administrative education program and received his MS degree in 1958 from Oklahoma State University. Wendell and Patty married on December 6, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After residing in Phoenix, Arizona for a short time, Wendell and Patty returned to Seiling, Oklahoma. Wendell served on the Seiling School Board for seven years, the Dewey County Fair Board for six years, the Seiling Housing Authority for four years, the Seiling Nursing Center for five years, Chairman of the Community State Bank Board of Directors from 1958-1964, Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America from 1958-1964 and a member of the Oklahoma Inventor’s Congress. Wendell enjoyed gardening and was always coming up with new ideas for inventions. Wendell was actively involved in the First Christian Church where he loved teaching high school students about the Bible. After retiring from Hedges Ag Service, Wendell taught Vo-Ag at Navajo Tohatchi High School located close to Gallup New Mexico in 2004. He enjoyed meeting and dancing with friends through the Senior Citizen Center, where he met Deloris. In December 2010, Wendell and Deloris married and made their home in Vici, Oklahoma.

    Wendell’s legacies are his four children, Rebecca Clayton and husband Larry of Chester, James Hedges and wife Kim of Seiling, David Hedges and wife Kathleen of Fort Smith, AR and Frank Hedges and wife Beverly of Arcadia, OK; sister Anne Decker and husband Gene of Seiling; brother Darwin Hedges and wife Laverne of Seiling; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grand children; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.

    In addition to his parents Fay and Bea, Wendell was preceded in death by wife Patty Joyce Hedges, wife Deloris Hedges and brother Duane Hedges.

    Marc Lyle Clayton, 73 year-old resident of Chester, OK, passed from this life on July 1, 2019 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Marc was born on July 22, 1945 in Vici, OK to Lyle and Betty (Hedges) Clayton. Marc graduated high school and attended some college in California where he met the love of his life, Karen. The two were married on August 1, 1965 in Tracy, CA, and to this union was born three daughters, Kelli, Amy, and Wendy.

    On December 1, 1965, Marc was inducted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. On November 30, 1967, Marc was honorably discharged from the Army having attained the rank of Specialist IV. Upon leaving the military, Marc and the family moved back to Oklahoma, where they settled in Chester, OK. Marc started M&M Tire in nearby Seiling, OK where he owned and operated it for 40 years. Marc was a member of the Methodist Church of Seiling and the VFW.

    Marc was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Betty Clayton; his sisters Connie Miller and Cathy Cline; and his brother Mike Clayton.

    Marc is survived by his wife Karen Clayton of the home; daughter Kelli Bensch and husband Brian of Chester, OK; daughter Amy Cox and husband Mark of Eagle City, OK; daughter Wendy Shook and husband Clint of Seiling, OK; brother Max Clayton of Fredrick, OK; grandson Garrett Bensch and wife Kassea; grandson Tanner Bensch; granddaughter Regan Scott and husband Kelby; grandson Connor Cox; granddaughter Emalee Shook; grandson Kelsen Shook; great-granddaughter Rylee Bensch; greatgranddaughter Kinsley Scott; and a host of friends and loved ones.

    Connie S. Miller, of Chester, passed into the arms of her Lord on June 20, 2016 at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 10 days. Connie was born on May 10, 1947 in Mooreland, OK to Lyle Marion and Betty Louise (Hedges) Clayton. She grew up in California attending the Tracy Schools until 10th grade, and graduating from Tehechapi, CA High School with the Class of 1965. She married the love of her life Mack Miller on February 20, 1976 at her parent’s home in Chester, OK. To this union of 40 years, they welcomed two children Shelly Sue Miller and Chris Wayne Miller. She and Mack owned the newspaper for several years, where she worked as an assistant publisher. In her spare time she liked to play board games, and read. In fact, she read so much, she accumulated her own library in her home. Due to failing health Connie had moved to the Seiling Nursing Center for the last 3 years and 11 months.
    In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelley Sue Miller in 1998; son, Chris Wayne Miller in 2016; sister Cathy Cline; and brother, Mike Clayton.
    Connie is survived by her husband Mack Wayne Miller of the home; four grandchildren Sierra Miller of Sharon, Ethan Mack Miller of Woodward, Cade Alexander Miller of Woodward, and Dylann Faith Lowery; two brothers, Marc Lyle Clayton and wife Schatze of Chester, Max Ira Clayton and wife Ann of Fredrick; sister in law LeaAnne Clayton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
    Funeral Services will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Elm Grove Community Church with Pastor Orville White presiding. Burial will follow at Cedardale Cemetery.

    He was born October 29, 1950 in Chadron, Nebraska, the son of Lyle Marion and Betty (Hedges).

    He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1969 to 1973, on the USS Kitty Hawk CV63, he had two tours in Viet Nam, received two Viet Nam Campaign Medals in 1970 & 1972, Presidents Unit Citation in 1970, 7th Fleet Unit Citation in 1972, VF-114 USS Kitty Hawk.

    Mike married Lea Anne (Clinesmith) Sander in Chester, Oklahoma, on June 26, 1977 at his parent's home. He soon began his own businesses, first hay hauling, and then opened, Mikes Shamrock Service Station in Seiling, Oklahoma. Mike and his oldest brother Marc became business partners in 1980 – 81 and opened Woodward Tire and Auto in Woodward, Oklahoma, later they built an additional store in Seiling, Oklahoma called M&M Tire and Auto. In 1989 Mike and family settled in Fayetteville where he started and is still in operation today, the Fayetteville Tire and Auto. In 2005 they opened Clayton Tire and Auto in Springdale, where his son David is the store manager, son Brad is manager of the Fayetteville Store and his son Chad is the active part-owner of the business.

    Mike was the most lovable man, he especially came to life around his grandchildren. He was a compassionate man. When he was aware of a need he felt compelled to do what he could. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and he will be missed by so many.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Cathy Cline and his mother-in-law June (Perry) Clinesmith.

    He is survived by his wife; Lea Anne (Clinesmith) Clayton of the home, three sons; Chad Michael Clayton and wife Jennifer of Greenland, Arkansas, Brad Marc Clayton and wife Johnna of Wesley, Arkansas, David Lee Sander and wife Teshia of Lowell, Arkansas, five grandchildren; Madison Sander, Taylor, Landry and Ty Clayton and Jaxson Nolen. Two brothers; Marc Clayton and wife Schatze of Chester, Oklahoma, Max Clayton and wife Ann of Frederick, Oklahoma and one sister; Connie Miller and husband Mack of Chester, Oklahoma. He is also survived my his in laws; father and mother-in-law; Leonard and Ru Ann Clinesmith of Checotah, Oklahoma, Mike Clinesmith and wife Debbie of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Ron Clinesmith and wife Bonnie of Chester, Oklahoma, Jo Lynn (Clinesmith) Wilson and husband Dale of Seiling Oklahoma, Arlan Clinesmith of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Lisa Clinesmith of Stillwater, Oklahoma, a honorary brother and wife, Ron and Pam Pitcher of Barstow, California, as well as many more family members and friends.

    A funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2009 at The First Church of the Nazarene in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Pastor Larry Woodward officiating. Pallbearers will be Logan Slavens, Zack Williams, Levon Ogden, Mark Nuuja, Michael Jarboe and Phillip Sparks. Burial will be in Cedardale cemetery in Seiling, Oklahoma.

    Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2009 in the chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, with the family present during visitation.
