    Arthur M. Hedges, Sr., 88, Topeka, Kan., formerly of Mound City, MO, died Monday, Jan. 3, 1994, at his home in Topeka.

    He was born April 24, 1905, at Denison, Kan. Mr. Hedges was known as "Mr. Mound City in the 1960's when he worked for the Mound City Chamber of Commerce. He had a column in the News-Independent, "Drag Up a Stool," which featured local residents of Mound City. Mr. Hedges was also instrumental in helping with the original grant work for the construction of Evans Circle. His first wife, Bonnie, had worked for the News-Independent as a Linotype operator. They moved from here in about 1967 or 1968. She died in 1986.

    Survivors include his wife, Eunice of Topeka, Kan.; a son, Art Hedges Jr., Sedalia; one daughter, Bonnie Greer, Yuma, Ariz.; and one son, Lyle Hedges, Linn.

    Mildred S. Petty, 80, a native of Denison, Kansas, passed away November 26, 2005, in Eureka, California, where she had been a resident for last 46 years.

    She worked as a social worker in Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, retiring after 21 years. In November 1996, she professed her secular Carmelite vows, becoming a lay nun.

    She is survived by her sons, Michael Petty, Charlie Petty and wife Carol, and Robert Petty; grandchildren, Jennifer Gingerich and husband Troy, Jeremy Omholt and wife Tai, Jason Petty and wife Mandy, and Richard Clements; six great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

    Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vietta Hedges; husband, Charles I. Petty; four sisters; and three brothers.

    The family wishes to thank all those who cared and visited Mildred over the years.

    Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Chapel of the Ferns Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street, Eureka, California, on Friday, December 2, 2005, at 2:00 pm. The celebrant will be Father Loren Allen.

    Mr. Housh was born April 16, 1921, at Norton. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was an electrician for Reed Roller Bit at Houston and a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Beloit, and the American Legion, Glen Elder.
    Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of the home; two sons, Dale and Dwight, both of Glen Elder; two daughters, Nancy Herberholz of Beloit and Susan Bowles of Cawker City; a brother, Barry Lee of Crosby, Texas; a sister, Kathleen Moeller of Coalgate, Okla.; and 11 grandchildren.
    A services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Glenwood Cemetery, Glen Elder, the Rev. John Grummon officiating.

She was born December 31, 1928 in Maple Hill, KS the daughter of John Milton and Thelma Marie Clark Hedges. Mrs. McCrory graduated from Denison High School in 1946 and was a lifelong member of the Denison community. She worked as a telephone operator in Denison and Holton. She also worked at her parent's grocery store in Denison. She was a member of the Denison Bible Church and a member of the Women's Missionary Society at the church. She married Leland M. "Lee" McCrory on May 11, 1948 in Holton, KS. He passed away February 16, 2008. Survivors include sons, Joel McCrory of Aledo, IL, and Mark McCrory of Topeka, KS; a daughter, Janet Larson of Topeka, KS; a sister, Marie Gunther of Mayetta, KS; brothers, James Hedges of Chatsworth, GA and John Clark Hedges of Pittsburgh, PA; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday September 26, 2008 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Denison Cemetery.
