    Funeral services for Alvin [Doc] Blanton, 53, of Lucasville Rt 3, are to be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Miller's Run Methodist Church.
    Mr. Blanton, an auto mechanic for Portsmouth Mixed Concrete the last 20 years, died at 6;45 a.m. Thursday at University Hospital in Columbus, where he had been a patient since last Saturday. He had been in ill health since he suffered a heart attack in Jan, 1959.
    Born Sept. 22, 1907, in Rowan Co., KY, he was a son of Hiram and Ethel Hall Blanton.
    Mr. Blanton was married Gladys Widdig July 30, 1934, in Lucasville, and Mrs. Blanton survives.
    Also surviving are three sons, Harold of Lucasville Rt. 3, Charles of Lucasville Rt. 2 and James of Tampa, Fla., brother, Sherman Blanton of 29th St.; half-brother, Fielden Buckner of Lucasville Rt. 1; half sister, Linda Entler of Mansfield, OH; three step-sisters, Mrs Franklin Chestnut and Miss Grace Moore of Lucasville Rt. 3, and Mrs. Ethel Jordan of Lucasville, and the stepmother, Martha Blanton of Lucasville Rt. 3. Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of Miller's Run Methodist Church. Rev. Julius Chandler is to officiate at services. Interment is to be in Lucasville Cemetery under direction of McKinley Funeral Home. Friends may call at the Blanton residence on Lucasville Rt. 3 after 6 tonight.

    June Montgomery Harless, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at her home following a long illness.

    Born July 16, 1920, at Holden, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Emma Hall Montgomery.

    Mrs. Harless was a member of the Gilbert Presbyterian Church and was the past moderator of the Women of the Church. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School and member of the Class of 1938.

    Mrs. Harless managed the fiscal side of the early Gilbert Lumber Co. and as the companies grew, she resumed her primary role as homemaker.

    She was an avid bird watcher and involved herself in identifying Appalachian wildflowers.

    During the last three years she was one of the primary forces behind the creation of the Larry Joe Harless Community Center, named after her son ‹ a place in Gilbert where children can play in a structured motivating environment and adults can come together in community activities.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Joe Harless; three brothers, Earl, Jack and Carl; and a sister, Opal.

    Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James H. "Buck" Harless, businessman and philanthropist and owner of International Industries, Inc.; a daughter, Judith Ann Burgess of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Beverly Burgess of Bell Buckle, Tenn., Stephanie Burgess of Mobile, Ala., James H. Harless II and his wife, Sjon, of Mobile, and Maurice "M.K." Harless and his wife, Sharon, of Mobile; four great-grandchildren, James H. "Tripp" Harless III, Hope Archer Harless, Chelsea Harless and Kitty Harless, all of Mobile.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Gilbert Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Chichester of Roanoke, Va., assisted by the Rev. Tom Schuler of Williamson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Harless Family Cemetery on Betty Island, Gilbert.

    Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Gilbert Presbyterian Church.

    Pallbearers will be Bruce Burgess, Freddy Harless, Eddie Grimmett, Curtis Lester, Jimmy Harless and Roger Blankenship and Gov. Cecil H. Underwood, C. Fred Shewey, Kenny Hatfield, Dr. Harry Fortner, Randy Cline and Gary White.

    In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Larry Joe Harless Community Center Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1210, Gilbert, WV 25621.

    Mary L. Green passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019. Mrs. Green was born January 31, 1930 in Portsmouth, Ohio and has been a resident of the Peninsula since 1961.
    Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband and father to their son, Norman E. Richards, her second husband, Hubert W. Green; father, Arthur Blanton; mother Marie Daniels; stepmother Linnie Mae Blanton.
    She is survived by her son, James E. Richards (Vickie); stepsons, H. Wayne Green Jr. (Jeannie), Gene E. Green MC (Shawn James); stepdaughter, Danette A. Reca; grandsons, Timothy Green (Ashley), Christian Green (Miranda); granddaughters, Lauren Nicholson and Lindsey Reca; great grandson Adron Green.
    Mary was a member of the ABWA, a charter member of the Eastern Star at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, member of Hampton Roads Bowling Association, member of the Red Hat Association, enjoyed Square Dancing at Langley Air Force Base and was a season ticket holder to the Peninsula Community Theater. After living at Fort Monroe and in the Riverdale community, she spent the last 10 years of her life living at the Chapman Apartments, in the Peninsula Town Center.
    The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral home on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with Reverend David Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be directed to Pine Chapel Church or the Peninsula SPCA.

    Larry Dean Roberts, 52, of New Castle, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at his home. Mr. Roberts was born October 25, 1948 in Kentucky, a son of the late Cleo and Lurlean Griggs Roberts. He had resided in New Castle for many years and was retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #371. He was a Vietnam War Army Veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of the New Castle Moose Lodge. He is survived by a son, Brad Dean (wife: Dina) Roberts of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; four grandchildren, Amie Sanner, Beth Sanner, Sara Sanner and Ronnie Sanner; three brothers, Barry Roberts and Bobby Roberts both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Tom Roberts of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister Wanda Thomas of St. Augustine, Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Roberts. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday January 28, 2001 at Herald-Stewart Home for Funerals in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky with Rev. Grose officiating. Burial will follow in Dickerson Cemetery, Salt Lick, Kentucky. Friends may call Friday from 5 – 9 pm Saturday at Herald-Stewart Home for Funerals in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

    Gerald Lee Roberts, husband of June Chapman Roberts, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019. He was a 74 year old native of Bath County, son of the late Ora and Roberta Wills Roberts, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, a retired employee of the Bluegrass Army Depot as well as a retired emergency manager, and a member of the Antioch Christian Church.

    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Stacy (Brian) Ballard, a son, Brian (Missy) Roberts, 4 grandchildren, Logan and Trevor Roberts, and Spencer and Blaine Ballard, a brother, James (Barbara) Roberts, and a niece, Lora (Lee) Dunnan.

    His funeral will be 11:00 Monday at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, pastors Rick Stafford and Jason Toller presiding, with burial in Machpelah Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00-7:00 Sunday. Pallbearers are: Logan Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Blaine Ballard, Spencer Ballard, Mike Keith, and Mark Chapman.

    She is survived by her stepfather, George O. Hammersla of Martinsburg; one daughter, Robin Lloyd of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren, Zachery Lloyd and Christopher Lloyd, both of Hagerstown.

    Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. The Rev. William E. Merki will officiate.

    There will be no visitation.

    Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg.
