- Clarence Brain Rites Are Today
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul’s Episcopal church for Clarence Brain, 76, nationally-known Mason who died Saturday in his home, 604 NW 17. Burial is to be in Memorial Park cemetery under direction of Guardian funeral home.
A member of the Society of Blue Friars, the journalist of Masonry. Brain was a collector of original Masonic publications and records.
Collectors term Brain’s Masonic library as “priceless.” Among the rare volumes is a ritual written in longhand by Albert Pike.
Past master of lodge No.36, Brain was high priest of the Royal Arch Masons, past master of council No.18, past grad high priest of the Royal Arch Masons, Knights York Cross of Honor, Knight Commander Court of Honor, member of ritual committee of the general grand chapter of the Royal Arch Masons, Grand Chancellor or the College of Rites and member of the Royal Order of Scotland.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home, and son, Gilbert T. Brain, Huron, S.D. Bearers will be Robert H. Sherman, Gen. William S. Key, Dennis Donovan, Harry House, Vernon Downing, J.S. Tate, W.C. Schmitt, William H. Powell, Roy R. Russel and W. King Larimore.
