- Clifford D. Greenwood
Clifford D. Greenwood, one of the last three surviving Spanish-American War veterans in San Mateo County, died Wednesday night at Sequoia Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Greenwood was 95 years old.
A native of Topeka, Kan. he served in Company D in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Philippine Islands for three years during the Spanish-American War.
Mr. Greenwood, who lived at 175 Orchard Ave., Redwood City, moved here in 1950 from San Francisco. He previously lived in Wisconsin. He retired in 1950 after working as garage manager in Wisconsin and San Francisco.
He was a member of the Topeka Masonic Lodge, Spanish-American War Veterans of Belmont and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Superior, Wisconsin.
Surviving Mr. Greenwood are his wife, Catherine, and a daughter, Mrs. Leota (Billie) Weber of Michigan.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Road, Redwood City. Interment will follow at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.
