- Irene R. Long, of Canby, Oregon, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Marquis Care at Hope Village.
Irene was born December 16, 1925 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania to Michael and Ophelia (Jarmunlovich) Rockwell. She was raised and educated in Western Pennsylvania.
Irene graduated from the Naval Nurses Cadet Academy, New York City, NY and served in Naval hospitals towards the end of WWII. Irene married Eldon Long they had four children. Irene was a devoted wife and mother always putting her children’s wellbeing above her own.
Eldon and Irene moved to Yakima in 1965 where they were longtime residents. Irene was a member of St. Joseph’s parish and later Holy Rosary parish. She was also an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
She is survived by her children, Eldon Michael (Carol) Long of Tennessee, Kenneth (Gail) Long of Redmond, OR and Daniel (Alene) Long of Longview, WA; eight grandchildren, a brother Franklin Rockwell of Virginia Beach, VA and a sister, Dolores Kazantzis of Scottsdale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon Long and a daughter, Patricia Hoehne, and six brothers and sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Moxee. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
