    Alvin Charles Harrison, 62, of 2301 Maryland, died Friday in a Topeka hospital where he had been readmitted Oct. 1. Earlier, he had been admitted May 14, 1968, and underwent surgery May 21 and again on May 27. He was hospitalized again in August and September. He had cancer.

    He was born Feb. 18, 1906, at Scranton, and had lived in Topeka since 1928. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
    He was an electrical engineer and was employed by Kansas Power and Light Co. 41 years. He was a system substation inspector for KPL. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM, and Local No. 304 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

    Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bernyce Harrison, at home; his mother, Mrs. Edith Wood, Eskridge, and a brother, Willard Harrison, Gary, Ind.

    Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Notes:

    Charles Harrison died last Friday morning as a result of an injury received while working in the coal mines at this place, four years ago. In March 1911 he submitted to the amputation of his right leg which was the injured member with the hope that his health might be permanently restored, but the deadly poison has scattered through his body and would not yield to any treatment. The decline was gradual until on Friday morning the tired heart refused to pulsate longer and the poor sufferer slipped away from earth. Charles Harrison the son of Robert Harrison and wife was born in Scranton, Feb. 22, 1881 and at the time of his death was in the 33rd year of his life. He was married to Miss Edith Carter March 8, 1905. The wife and three children, father, mother, two sisters and five brothers mourn his departure from this life. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Raymond Monday afternoon and the burial was in the Scranton cemetery.

    Notes:

    Edith, age 92, died at an Eskridge nursing home where she had lived several years. She married Charles Harrison on March 8, 1905, in Osage County, then James Riley Rinker on October 25, 1917, then Charles Wood.

    She was preceded in death by all three husbands, and her sons, Charles Harrison and Leonard Harrison. Survivors include her son, Willard Harrison, her brothers, Louis Carter, Philip Carter, and Don C. Carter, one granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren.

    Services were held at Eskridge United Methodist Church. Burial was in Eskridge Cemetery.

    A Pioneer Preacher
    Rev. William Parker is dead.
    He was one of the best known Baptist preachers in Kansas.
    Coming to the state long years ago he gave his life to the upbuilding of the church of his choice.
    He was a missionary and founded many churches in the Ninnescah Valley [Kansas] and ministered to many of them.
    Rev. Parker died at his home in Valley Center Wednesday night and will be buried today at Clearwater. He was a man 83 years of age, but still active in the preaching of the gospel.
    A service was held at Valley Center and one will be held today at Clearwater.
    A good man has gone to a great reward and "his works do follow him."


    Rev. Wm. Parker and Moses Parker, both members of the Baptist church, the one from Iowa and the other from Illinois, have purchases places near Clearwater. The Lacon Journal speaks very highly of Elder Wm. Parker and notices the fact that eh started two cars loaded with find cattle and sheep, fruit trees and implements for Wichita, and speaks with regret of the loss to the schools of Miss Nettie, his daughter. We welcome the gentlemen to our valley.
