The 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census gives Sarah's birth place as Canada.

Her father's obituary states his arrival from Ireland to Canada and then to the United States in 1864, so it is very likely that Sarah was born in Canada just before their arrival in the United States.

Her obituary gives birth place as Iowa which would have been where she grew up.

While attending the football game at Boulder, Colo., Saturday afternoon, Forrest S. Woodside of Denver was stricken with a heart attack and died very suddenly.
He had suffered a heart ailment earlier this year and was advised by doctors to take a much needed rest in a warmer climate and change of altitude. He and Mrs. Woodside went to Scottsdale, Ariz., in early spring and there he was stricken with a more serious heart condition and spent many weeks in a hospital. He recovered sufficiently to return to his Denver home in July and was recovering slowly but satisfactorily according to his medical advisors.
The Woodside family resided in the vicinity eat of Arapahoe 53 years ago, leaving here in 1910 to live in Colorado. Forrest was nearly 65 years of age at the time of his death and he was president of the Woodside Lumber Co., in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
The death of his father, W.S. Woodside, 97, occurred a month ago on August 21st. His mother passed away in September of 1950.
Survivors are his wife, Mae; a son, Forrest Jr., of Topeka, Kans.; two grandchildren; a daughter-in-law; two sisters, Eva Woodside of Denver and Mildred Mitchell of Lamar, Colo.

2568 LKH note: The kidnapping and murder of Marion Parker was heavily covered in California newspapers and in newspapers across the whole the United States. Coverage began with news of her kidnapping with multiple news articles each day, and continued over a period of several days when her body was found and the search for her murderer began. Coverage continued after Hickman was found, was arrested and later confessed.
* * * *
Here is a summary of the case:
Body of Marion Parker, kidnaped 12-year-old Los Angeles school girl, surrendered to her father after he meets kidnaper in outlaying section of town and pays $1500. Body is found horribly mutilated, with arms and legs amputated and piano wire stuck into eyes to hold them open. Part of body are found neatly wrapped in packages in street.
Police find suspected house of death where Marion was put to death. In it they find blood-stained towels, fingerprints, razor blades, “The Murder in the Rue Morgue”, by Poe; picture of Judas Iscariot and other evidence.
Kidnaper’s car, which had been stolen in Kansas City, and carried license plates stolen in San Diego, found in parking place.
Two of many detained by police are quizzed. One is “casual friend” of Parker family, a youth who refuses to give detailed account of his activities last few days. Other is girl who was found in front of the house crying “I did not kill her.”
Fund of more than $100,000 raised as reward to stimulate search.
It was reported here this afternoon that the murderer of Marion Parker had been arrested at Los Angeles. It was said in the report that the fiend was a 17-year-old youth who was employed in a bank at the southern city. This could not be verified but at the sheriff’s office was declared likely to be untrue, since no official report had been received from the Los Angeles authorities.
The Colusa Herald, Colusa, California. Tuesday, 20 December 1927.
* * *
Fingerprint identification established beyond all shadow of a doubt this morning that William Edward Hickman, a former messenger employed at the bank where Marion Parker’s father is an official, was the sleek stranger who lured the little girl from school and finally delivered the child’s mangled body to her father last Saturday night.
The Van Nuys News, Van Nuys, California. Tuesday, 20 December 1927, page 1.
* * * *
San Quentin, Oct. 19 – The hanging of Hickman was the final chapter in one of the most sensation murder cases in the history of California.
[LKH note: there follows a detailed account of the kidnapping and a description with too much detail of Marion Parker’s murder and mutilation of her body.]
Positive identification of Hickman as the murderer was made on December 20 through a tip furnished by Welby Hunt, his former partner in a series of holdups.
By that time Hickman was fleeing north through California in a stolen automobile, making a mad dash for the Canadian border.
His trail was picked up in Seattle, Wash., when he spent one of the telltale $20 bills and he was cornered and captured at Pendleton, Oregon, on December 22.

2576 Lois Nadine Graham was born in Hong Kong British Territory August 3, 1921. Her parents, Richard Cameron and Mary Belle (Edgar) Adams were missionaries to China. (Bud) Graham at the mission with her father officiating.
After their marriage, Bud and Lois moved to Wichita KS where both worked for Beech Aircraft during World War II. They moved to Topeka KS where they continued to build their dairy and Lois worked as an accountant for a local car dealership. While living there, they adopted son William (Bill). Tired of the cold winters and not liking that Lois had to work outside the home, they sold their farm and cows and moved to Phoenix AZ in 1954. Later they began attending the Laveen Baptist Church and were very active members there.

2594 Margaret Moranville, known as "Margie", left the confines of this world on Friday October 30, 2015, after a rich and fulfilling life of 90 years. As Margie approached death due to Alzheimer's, she was surrounded by the loving and devoted care of Friends for Life; The Gardens at St. Elizabeth; Wind Crest Continuing Care in Highlands Ranch; Suncrest Hospice; long time friends and family. Due to the efforts of all these people, Margie's final years were made comfortable and happy and, for this, the family will always be eternally grateful. The funeral mass for Margie will take place at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada(12735 W. 58th Ave.) on November 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by reception in the church hall and internment at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.

Margie always referred to herself as "an Arvada girl". Except for the first two years and the last five years of Margie's life, her home was always Arvada, Colorado. All in all, Margie lived 83 years of her life in Arvada. Margie Moranville came from humble stock-the daughter of a coal miner and farmer. She was born in a coal mining camp in a place called Serene Colorado on January 3, 1925 to immigrants from Croatia, Mary and Philip Stefanich. Margie always said, "Yes, I was born in Serene but you can't call me Serene!" Margie was a toddler when her parents brought her to Arvada. She worked along side her two sisters (Kate and Mary) and two brothers (Phil and John) on the Stefanich family truck farm on Simms Road. When Margie wasn't in school at Fremont Elementary or Holy Family High School, she could be found tending livestock (turkeys and cows) or picking asparagus and other crops from dawn to sunset. She always loved gardening as a result, but the great depression and frugality burned in her soul. When WWII came along, she worked in a factory as a "Rosie the Riveter" type gal operating a punch press. In fact, it was at General Iron Works in Denver where Margie met her future husband, Walter Moranville.

Margie waited for Walter for four years while he served in the Merchant Marines. Subsequently, Margie and Walter married in 1946 at St. Ann's in Arvada. After a brief interlude in Denver, the couple moved to Simms Road in Arvada where they built a home on an acre and half of ground given to them by Margie's parents as a wedding gift. On Simms Rd., Margie and Walt raised their two children, Ellen Moranville Clark (born in 1947) and John Moranville (born in 1948). Margie was never a "stay at home Mom". She continued working in a factory-primarily Anderson & Forrester-while her mom, Grandma Mary babysat Ellen and John next door. When Simms Rd. became a busy thoroughfare, Margie moved to a home on West 59th Place in February of 1987. It was the same day her husband,Walter, died.

Margie always supported her church-St. Ann's and later on, St. Joan of Arc. She was on the Finance Committee at St. Ann's Credit Union that later became Northwest Federal Credit Union. Margie took great delight in volunteering for various committees at St. Ann or St. Joan, baking cakes for funerals and being a contributing member of the Senior Group. When people thought of Margie, they often referred to her as a "good partier" and being very generous. For parties, she intensely enjoyed St. Joan of Arc bowling parties with trips to the Red Lobster afterwards. As an aside, Margie was a great bowler with many 300 games to her credit. Her Pinochle card parties - that began when she was a parishioner at St. Ann and continued when she became a member of St. Joan of Arc-functioned for close to 50 years. These gatherings were filled with laughter and enduring friendships. Her many trips with family-primarily to Ireland, Italy and across the west with Devon Moranville; five grandchildren and their spouses - Teresa Clark and her grandson, Will-were always a "party on wheels" and defined by her jokes and story telling. Regarding Margie's generosity of spirit, she had the family record for the number of Afghans crocheted for family and friends (60) and the number of Croatian potica loaves baked at Christmas (dozens). As she lived out her final years at Gardens at St. Elizabeth and Wind Crest, residents and staff at both places always commented on Margie's sunny disposition and how they thoroughly enjoyed being around her. Margie loved her family and friends with all her heart. This love is her abiding legacy.

Margie is survived by: Ellen Clark (daughter)and son-in-law, Bill Clark; John Moranville (son)and daughter-in-law, Dave Ruminski, Samantha Moranville and Steve Liebowitz,Sarah Moranville, Will and Kristin Clark, Abbey Moranville Lasota;two great granddaughters-Antonia Ruminski and Ellie Clark; Margie's sister, Mary Tilp and her husband, Paul Tilp; her sister-in-law, Jean Mund and her husband, Hal; and numerous nieces and nephews across the USA.

Margie always loved gardening, raising her own vegetables and assisting the poor and vulnerable. To honor Margie, donations may be made to The Sustainable Living Foundation (501c3), 156 Marvin Ave. Los Altos, CA 94022. Please stipulate on the check: Paraguay Garden Project or Zimbabwe Orphans. On-line donations may be made via: www.ZimbabweParaguay.

2599 Marian Staver remembered for her spirit and creativity
BY PJPENT
JUNE 11, 2009 1:31 PM PT

Longtime Del Mar resident Marian Staver, whose generosity, creativity and caring nature was felt throughout the community, died May 19 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 86.

“She was a major influence on Del Mar being developed as an aesthetic and quiet community,” friend Doug Allred said.

While her husband, Ralph Staver, took a more public role in civic affairs, serving on the Del Mar City Council, Allred said Marian’s eye for beauty and love of the natural environment was equally significant.

He credits the progressive couple with inspiring him to help save Seagrove Park and incorporate as many trees as possible in the development of Del Mar Woods.

“They were a team,” Allred said. “They had a deep love for Del Mar, and doing things that would make Del Mar special.”

Staver was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Los Angeles. Orphaned at 13, she lived with her aunt when not at boarding school. She earned a philosophy degree from Stanford University in 1945 and married Ralph Staver three years later.

“They liked to laugh,” said daughter Ann Irwin of her parents. “They could be silly together.”

The couple first came to Del Mar in the late 1940s, renting a home on the beach, but did not move here permanently until 1964. They lived on a beautiful oceanfront property at the south end of the city, where they often hosted community meetings, parties and fundraisers.

“She was always extremely generous in giving of her home and garden for meetings, lunches,” said Marnie Mahoney, a friend and fellow Del Mar Garden Club member. “That would always include a train ride.”

Ralph Staver, who loved trains, installed a miniature railroad that wound through their property. Children and adults alike - be it for school field trips, parties or Irwin’s wedding reception departure - delighted in the whimsical attraction.

Their imagination did not stop there - Marian’s stunning gardens also included a hedge labyrinth.

Marian Staver was a woman of many interests, but music was her favorite by far, Irwin said. An accomplished pianist, she also played a pipe organ in her home.

“We grew up with every type of music conceivable,” Irwin said.

Marian was an active supporter of the San Diego Opera, underwriting new compositions and spearheading fundraising campaigns. She was also a founding member of the Del Mar Garden Club, a former president of the Wednesday Club and member of the philanthropic organization PEO Sisterhood.

However, Marian’s greatest love was for her family. She raised six children, and enjoyed baking cookies, sewing doll outfits, and spending time with her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“Having a big family and keeping us all close was very important to her,” Irwin said.

Marian Staver is survived by her daughter Ann Irwin and her four sons: Dan, Tom, John and Larry Staver and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph and her son James.
