3303 | TIPPIN, Ralph Sterling, D.D.S. Born in Santa Ana, California on January 23, 1923 he passed away on February 21, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife Louise; his daughter Laurie and partner Mark of Susanville; his son Scott and daughter-in-law Debbie of Ione with granddaughters Chelsea and Kayla; and granddaughters Tavia and Christina of Alaska; and preceded in death by his son Chris. Ralph attended the University of Berkeley California, followed by the University of California Dental School in San Francisco after serving during World War II in the amphibious forces of the Navy in the Pacific Theater. While a student he and Louise were married and soon after they moved to Sacramento where he practiced dentistry until retirement in 1987. Ralph had many interests throughout the years. He was active in Boy Scouts with his two sons, enjoyed camping and backpacking with his family and friends, learned to weld and woodwork, played bridge and liked tending to his vegetable garden. Writing and playing music was Ralph's greatest calling and he played the piano for over seventy years. Since his time as a pianist and organist for Arden Christian Church he provided musical entertainment for a number of local retirement homes and played in an adult education symphony. A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Arden Christian Church, 4300 Las Cruces Way, Sacramento CA 95864. 3305 | Tom Tull Obituary Tom was born in Arapaho, Nebraska on his family's farm in 1921. He lived there until 1935, when the Republican River flooded out his family and many of their neighbors. The family moved to town, where they continued to live for many more years. Tom was a football player and a State Championship competitor in the pole-vault while he was at Arapaho High School, graduating in 1939. After graduation he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) for a year, and then went to Denver, Colorado in 1940 to pursue an education. It was there that he met his future wife, Margaret Hill. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, Tom joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Oakland, California. Margaret joined him there, where they were married and spent the war years. After the war they returned to Denver, where they had their only child, John, in 1946. Tom and Margaret lived in and around the Denver area for the next 47 years, except for one year in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom worked primarily in accounting, but also spent a few years in real estate and landscaping. Road trips throughout the Colorado Rocky Mountains were Tom and Margaret's favorite recreation. In 1993 they moved to Washington State to be near their son, John, daughter-in-law, Charlene, and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Tom liked to golf, so they lived across the street from the Capitol City Golf Course for many years. Tom and Margaret loved the ocean, so they took frequent trips to the coast, especially enjoying the Ocean Shores area and the North Coast of Oregon. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. Mr. Carter was a pipefitter at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. where he worked 28 years before he retired. He was the first president of United Rubber Workers Local No. 307 in Topeka. He also had worked in dairy manufacturing in Washington, D.C. He was born Jan. 12, 1907, at Scranton, the son of John Elam and Emily Parker Carter. He was graduated from Eskridge High School and from Kansas State University in 1932. Mr. Carter lived in Topeka since 1945. He was a a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, United Rubber Workers Retirees, American Association of Retired Persons, Capital City Barbershop Chorus, and New Beginnings singing group. He was married to Dorothy E. Newlin June 17, 1934, at Lawrence. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Yoho, Topeka; a brother, Philip R. Carter, Boulder, Colo.; three grandsons, four great-grandchildren and a step-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. She was born Dec. 3, 1903, at Wilson, the daughter of George Willis and Selena Lowe Brenner. She had lived at Topeka since 1923. Mrs. Harrison was graduated from Christ Hospital School of Nursing, which became Jane C. Stormont Hospital and Training School for Nurses, Topeka, in 1949. She was named Christ Alumni Graduate of 1926. Mrs. Harrison was a public health nurse at Topeka for 35 years before she retired in 1961. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She was married to Alvin Harrison Feb. 21, 1931, at Topeka. He died Oct. 11, 1968. Surviving are two cousins, a nephew and two great-nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Newcomer-Diffenderfer Funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Police said the death was suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. She had cancer. Mrs. Yoho was a director of Graphic Art Services at Washburn University before she became ill. She previously worked as a graphic designer for Josten's Inc. and several Topeka advertising agencies. She was born Jan. 29, 1935, at Lawrence, the daughter of John C. and Dorothy Newlin Carter. She attended Topeka public schools and was graduated from Topeka High School. She was graduated from Washburn University in 1971. She was married to Max Yoho in 1954 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include three sons, Alex Yoho, Stuart Yoho and Nicholas Yoho, all of Topeka; her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Newlin Carter, Topeka; four grandchildren; and a step-grandchild. Mrs. Yoho was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Earlier, he had been admitted May 14, 1968, and underwent surgery May 21 and again on May 27. He was hospitalized again in August and September. He had cancer. He was born Feb. 18, 1906, at Scranton, and had lived in Topeka since 1928. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an electrical engineer and was employed by Kansas Power and Light Co. 41 years. He was a system substation inspector for KPL. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM, and Local No. 304 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bernyce Harrison, at home; his mother, Mrs. Edith Wood, Eskridge, and a brother, Willard Harrison, Gary, Ind. 3310 | TRENTON -- Donald I. McCollam, age 74, died Friday night at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman. Mr. McCollam was born January 11, 1907 in Gosper County to the late William and Liza McCollam. He grew up near Arapahoe and was married August 14, 1930 to Vada Petsch at Wauneta. They moved to Trenton in 1945, and she preceded him in death October 17, 1961. He was married September 3, 1966 at Scottsbluff to Clara Evans. They returned to Trenton where he was employed at the Hitchcock County Courthouse for 17 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. McCollam was a member of the McCook Elks Lodge and McCook Eagles Club. Survivors include his wife, Clara of Trenton; five daughters, Mrs. Fritz (Denelda) Hamill of Holcomb, Kansas; Mrs. Bill (Joyce) Shank of Denver, Colorado; Katherine Brannan of Thornton, Colorado; Mrs. Raymond (Carolyn) Lopez of Fort Sumner, New Mexico; and Sonjia McCollam of Artesia, New Mexico; two step-children, David Evans of McCook and Mrs. Bill (Myrna) Clifford of Hayes Center; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Owen of McCook; Orville of Fort Lupton, Colorado; Wayne of Knoxville, Iowa; and Clifford of Oakland, California; and four sisters, Mabel Randolph of Stratton; Beth Moon of Des Moines, Iowa; Faye Sukan of Tigard, Washington; and Velma Prideaux of Woodriver, Oregon. Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Trenton with the Rev. Richard Atherton and the Rev. W.W. DeBolt officiating. 3311 | Troy Preston Cox Gooding – Troy Preston Cox, 81, Gooding, died Friday noon at a Shoshone nursing home. He was born Sept. 8, 1888, at Carrol County, Va. He attended schools in Virginia moving to Idaho in 1909 where he worked for Senator Gooding on his ranch, and also drove a stagecoach in Oregon. He entered the U.S. Army during World War I serving with the American expeditionary force in France. He married Elsie O. Jones Sept. 27, 1919, I Carrol County. They moved back to Gooding that year and Mr. Cox worked for the city of Gooding as water superintendent and street commissioner until retiring in 1946. He built the Evergreen Motel in 1959. Mrs. Cox died in 1965. He was a member of the Gooding United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Gooding Elks Lodge and the Gooding Moose Lodge. Survivors include a son, Carl W. Cox, Boise; two daughters, Mrs. Ila Daniels, Gooding, and Mrs. Don (June) Faubion, Boise; a brother, Claron Cox, Woodland, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Leona Coble, Fayetteville, N.C., and several grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson Chapel in Gooding by the Rev. Edmond Stanton of the Gooding United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Elmwood in Gooding. 3312 | Two funerals set for bellmon Oklahoma City – Two funeral services will be held Saturday for former Gov. Henry Bellmon, who died Tuesday after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 88. Bellmon will lie in state at the capitol from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Family member and former staff members will be on hand to greet visitors. Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Edmond and at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Perry. Bellmon will be buried at the Union Cemetery in his hometown of Billings. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Billings. Credited with making the republican Party into a force in state politics, Bellmon served nonconsecutive terms as governor, begin in 1963 and 1987, and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1968 and 1974. 3315 | Uncle Moses Parker was county Pioneer. Sixty years he served as a minister of the Baptist church. With the death of "Uncle Moses" Parker of Clearwater recently, there passed away one of the oldest and best known pioneers of Sedgwick County. He was 91 years old and for 60 years was a Baptist minister. Most of those 60 years were spent in the vicinity of Clearwater, as he came to Kansas in 1876 and settled close to that place soon after. He had a prominent part in the development of Southern Kansas. He was born in Ireland and was an Odd Fellow. Altho in later years a minister, he was one of the "49ers". He took part in the strenuous rush to California for gold in the early days before Kansas was known to many persons. He was then but about 20 years old, but went thru with many hardships before returning and settling down. He is survived by six children. The Wichita Beacon, Wichita, Kansas. 6 June 1918. Vera also formerly participated in activities of the Delta Lamb Center and Shepherd Center. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Potter in 1973. 3338 | Veteran of World War Laid to Rest Morning Sun, Ia., Aug. 24. – (Special.) – The funeral services of Vernon Earl Jarvis took place Sunday afternoon at 2:30, at the home of his father, Sam Jarvis, southwest of town. The service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Nicholis of the First Presbyterian church. Vernon Earl Jarvis was born May 28, 1894, at Morning Sun, and died last Friday, Aug. 20. He was in the army during the World war. His health broke during this time and he never regained it. He was a member of the Reorganized Church, Latter Day Saints at Decatur, Neb. 3341 | Virgil D. Hasenyager Virgil D. Hasenyager, 62, of 4930 Marsh, died yesterday at the Veterans hospital. He was born in Norcatur, Kas., and lived here 23 years. Mr. Hasenyager was an electrician for the Missouri Plating company before he retired. He was a Lutheran. Mr. Hasenyager was a Mason. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Cooties. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice Hasenyager of the home; a son, Sgt. Clifford E. 3344 | Virginia ""Ginny"" Ann Grothe-Maxwell, 76, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 20, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the Brooks Funeral Care, University Chapel in Clive, Iowa. Ginny was born July 22, 1930 in Clinton, IA to Alma Marie Bergthold Beine and Joseph Beine. She was raised in Burlington where she attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Burlington High School in 1948. Ginny married William ""Bill"" J. Grothe, Jr. on September 30, 1950, who died June 23, 1992. She then married Calvin ""Charlie"" Maxwell on January 9, 2002. Ginny worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, and then retired from US West in 1989. She enjoyed all mental games, playing poker, spending time on her acreage in southern Iowa and with family and friends. Ginny loved all animals, especially her dogs Charlee and Dolly, and supported the Humane Society of America. She also enjoyed gardening, yard work, camping, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was a life long fan of country western music and has always been an avid Cubbie fan. Ginny is survived by her husband, Calvin C. Maxwell of Johnston; her children, Nan (Jim) Newell of Prairie City, Steve (Tracy) Grothe of Osceola, Don Grothe of Plano, TX, Kathy (Randy) Kladivo of Tower, MN, Angie Johnson of Des Moines and Linda (Jon) Darter of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren; sisters, Claire George of Littleton, CO and Doris Levins of Burlington; brother-in-law Bob (Mary) Grothe of Danville; her step-children, Pamela (Kim) Richardson, Cynthia (Vic) Suppan, Charles (Deb) Maxwell, Edward Maxwell, Christina (Brian) Reid and Kenneth Maxwell; as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. 3346 | Virginia Maxine Weaver age 92 of Miami, Florida passed away Sunday morning, December 20, 2015 at her home. She was born November 8, 1923 in Clymer, Pennsylvania daughter of the late David Earl and Margaret (Bartlebaugh) Clemenson. On October 20, 1951 she married Earl K. "Doc" Weaver in Grosse Point, Michigan. He preceded her in death January 22, 1994. She resided in Harper Woods for many years. She and Doc loved wintering in Florida for many years and Virginia eventually made Florida her fulltime residence. Virginia retired from the Ford Motor Company following 30 years of dedicated employment as a switchboard operator. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and loved traveling throughout the world. Virginia and Doc were avid boaters and were members of the Clinton River Boat Club and the Detroit Power Squadron. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including: Leslie (Bruce) Dewey of Havana, Florida and Adrienne (Dominick) Calautti of Miami, Florida; great nieces and nephews: Erin Dewey, Michelle Calautti, Erik Calautti, Jenna Schroeder and Dylan Arnold; great great niece: Cora Schroeder. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: LaVerne Dix and niece: Renee Arnold. A graveside service and burial will take place at 9:00 A.M Monday at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. 3347 | Vivian Weaver White Sulphur Springs Vivian Weaver, 82, died Sunday at a Great Falls hospital of a brain hemorrhage. A vigil service will be at 7 tonight at the Twichel Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, with burial in Mayn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Meagher County Senior Center. Weaver was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Portland, Ore. She attended schools in Westport, Ore., and a business college in Portland. She worked as a legal secretary before marrying Lawrence Beaulieu in Vancouver, Wash. They operated a business in Clatskanie, Ore., and later divorced. In 1948 she married Gilbert Weaver in Vancouver and they moved to Martinsdale in 1959. They settled in White Sulphur Springs in 1960. He died in 1973. Weaver was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church and the Castle Mountain Garden Club, past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a charter member of the White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens Association, delivering Meals on Wheels from the center for 16 years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Surviving are four daughters, Katie Burnett of Great Falls, Mary Anne Gauer of Lewistown, Jacqueline Baron of Lake Forest, Calif., and Linda Sutton of Kodiak, Alaska; a brother Robert Eyman of Pacific City, Ore.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 3348 | W.J. Crawford was born in Pittsburg, Penn., November 14, 1850, and passed away September 22, 1931 at his home near Bostwick, Nebr., at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 8 days. When just a small boy he with his parents moved to Des Moines county (sic), Iowa, where he lived until 1885. On February 22, 1876, he was united in marriage to Hannah McKeown. Five children came into this home, four of whom are now living. The eldest, a son, died in infancy. In 1885 Mr. and Mrs. Crawford and family came to Nebraska and located on the farm where he resided until the time of his death. Mrs. Crawford preceded him in death, on June 11, 1918. At the age of 22 he became affiliated with the Reformed Presbyterian church (sic) of Sharon, Iowa. Thirteen years later, when they moved to this community, he and Mrs. Crawford placed their names on the Beulah roll of membership. This was over 45 years ago. Mr. Crawford was a pioneer both in this community and in the life of the Beulah congregation. He was steadfast in his faith and for a number of years performed the duties of ruling elder in the Beulah congregation, the highest office the church can offer a layman. For many years Mr. Crawford was the Session's efficient clerk. He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons and two daughters, Walter, Claude and Celia Crawford, and Mrs. Zella Moranville; four grandchildren: Esther, Charles, Water and Ruth Moranville, all of this place; two brothers and three sisters: Robert and Edd Crawford, Mrs. Cora White, Mrs. Eva Guy and Mrs. Ila Hill, all of southern California; besides other relatives and many close friends. Funeral services were held in the Beulah church (sic) at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor Rev. A.J. McFarnland, assisted by a mixed quartet and interment was made in the Beulah cemetery (sic). 3350 | Waldo Archer Black Funeral services for Waldo Archer Black of Dove Creek will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Dove Creek First Southern Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Candelaria will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery. Waldo was born on July 8, 1908, to Matthew and Anna (Caskey) Black in Clay Center, Kans. He passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez. He was 93. On July 20, 1935, in Denver, Colo., Waldo married his sweetheart, Mary Burt. They moved to Southwest Colorado in the 1970s and resided in Dove Creek. Waldo was a resident of the Dove Creek area for 25 years where he worked as an auto mechanic. An outdoorsman, Waldo loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his sons, Delbert (Annetta) Black of Boulder, Colo., and Ralph Black of Lafayette, Colo.; and his brother, Glenn Black of Hubart, Ore.
