3353 | Walkinshaw - Laura Maude Walkinshaw of 30 West 19th Avenue, died in Salem, September 19, 1966. She was born January 9, 1980 in Clay Center, Kansas. She taught school in Kansas, and was united in married to Samuel A. Walkinshaw on April 19, 1905. The family moved to Oregon in 1911, and lived at Yoncalls, Oregon until 1920 when they moved to Eugene, where she had resided most of the time since. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, and had always been active in church and community activities. her husband and son preceded her in death. She is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Gordon Bens of San Diego; two grand-children, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Robert W. Davis, and Mrs. Carl Ward of Eugene, Clarence Chestnut of Grants Pass, and Elmer Chestnut of Tacoma, Washington; also many nieces and Nephews. 3354 | WALKINSHAW RITES HELD LAST FRIDAY Eight Children attend rites; also, other Blanchard News BLANCHARD, Nov 10 The eight sons and daughters of William Walkinshaw were all at the funeral service Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. C T Carson of Clarinda. Pallbearers were grandsons, Frank and William Christiansen, John Henry and Richard Harness, Gary Barritt and Jimmy Walkinshaw. Music, Mrs Don Hensleigh and Arthur Finlay and a solo by a granddaughter Anita Harness. Flowers were cared for by granddaughters, Mrs. Harold Hutt, Mrs Robert Lathrop, Mrs George Brownfield and Anita Harness. Two sisters, Mrs Will Henning of Hopkins and Mrs Thomas Copeland of Maryville, attended the service. 3359 | Walter “Scott” Milroy Walter “Scott’ Milroy, 90, Winchester, died May 16 1994, at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, Winchester, after a short illness. He was born April 5, 1904, at Quinter, the son of James S. and Nellie A. Bailey Milroy. He had lived in Winchester since 1949. Mr. Milroy was a longtime custodian and bus driver for the Winchester Public Schools. He had previously worked for farmers in the Winchester area and operated a portable feed mill for many years. He was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Winchester, and was a former elder of the church. He was a charter member of the Winchester Lions Club for over 40 years. He was married to Edith A. McElroy May 23, 1930, at Quinter. She preceded him in death Aug. 3, 1991. He is survived by four sons, Leland Milroy, Wellsville, Eugene Milroy, Omaha, Gary Milroy, Winchester, and Robert Milroy Prairie Village; two daughters, Nellie Perry, Oskaloosa, and Joan Adams, Middleton, Wisc.; one brother, Raymond Milroy, Wakefield; three sisters, Evadne Graham and Luella Graham, both of Quinter, and Jennie McMahan, Clay Center; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., DeKalb; and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, Iowa . The Rev. Darryl Erickson will officiate the services on Sunday. Burial will be at Indian Creek Cemetery, Columbus Junction, Iowa. Visitations will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Anderson Funeral Home Ltd.; and also from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. She spent many years working at the DeKalb Bank and Northern Illinois University, where she retired after more than 20 years. She had a passion for her family as well as telling stories and making others laugh. She spent many years entertaining people as "LaLee-Pop" the clown. She was a helper to others and was actively a giver of random acts of kindness. The Leonard Street neighborhood will have an empty spot, as she was a great neighbor to all. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the 8/40 Group. She enjoyed serving veterans and was involved with their project to help children with Cystic Fibrosis at the Jewish Children's Hospital in Denver, Colo. She could be seen all dressed up in her Red Hat as she socialized with the Red Hatter's Club of DeKalb. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hoyle and husband Randy of Naperville; a granddaughter, Valerie Rusin and husband Jason of Montgomery, Ill.; a sister, Norma Yoder and husband Elwood of Kalona, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Durst of Muscatine, Iowa, and Mary V. 3366 | Wendall William Adams, M.D., 90, died Friday, April 7, 2006 at the Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born May 15, 1915 to William Henry and Sarah Jane (Shaw) Adams in Hastings, Neb. Dr. Adams graduated from high school in Grant, Neb., in 1932, from Hastings College in 1936, and from Northwestern University Medical School in 1940. He was married to Helene Burton Starr from 1939 until her death in 1985. He served in the Navy Medical Corps as a Lieutenant, j.g., from 1944 to 1946. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Cleveland, Ohio and was on the staff at St. Luke's and University Hospitals in Cleveland for 41 years. He was an active member of The Church of The Master in Cleveland where he was a soloist in the choir. He was a member of numerous medical associations and a past President of the Cleveland Society of OB/GYN. He married Lenla (Fletcher) Wiseman in Scottsdale, Ariz. on May 12, 1986. After his retirement in 1987, he was a part-year resident of both Alliance, Neb., and Phoenix, and became an avid golfer. He was an active member in the United Methodist Church in Alliance and the Desert Foothills United Methodist Church in Phoenix, where he continued participating in both choirs until 2004. He is survived by his wife Lenla Adams; sisters Theone Kent of Grant, Neb., and Evelyn and husband Gordon Tegnell of Chapel Hill, N. C.; children Dr. Susan Belz and husband Robert Hurwich of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Rinda and husband Daniel Beck of Glenview, Ill., and Dr. Wendall William and wife Nancy Adams, Jr. of Puyallup, Wash.; stepchildren Jane and husband Russell Lance of Phoenix, and Roy Wiseman of Scottsdale; grandchildren Robin Belz (Edward Alvarran), Peter (Laura) Belz, Christina and Allison Beck, Katherine and Lauren Adams, Grady and Kelcey Lance, and Rider Wiseman; great-grandchildren Andrew and Alexis Belz, and Caroline Alvarran Belz; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helene, and his son Gary. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, April 15 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale. 3367 | White Cottage Resident Dies In Hospital James Howard Thompson, 83, of near White Cottage, died at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bethesda hospital after a two year illness. He was formerly a carpenter but since his retirement had operated the family farmstead near White Cottage. He was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian church of that vicinity. 3388 | Wilbur C. Prideaux June 12, 1920-May 2, 1991 Woodburn – Wilbur C. Prideaux, 70, died Thursday at his home. He was born and raised in Hendley, Neb. He married Velam R. McCollam on Feb. 16, 1941. That same year they moved to Oregon and in 1973 they came to Woodburn. He was a welder in the metal fabrication industry. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Woodburn Christian Church and the Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Diana J. McBride of Hubbard and Linda K. Dickenson of Salem; sisters, Anna Henry of North Bonneville, Wash., and Velma Titch of Woodburn; and seven grandchildren. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday in Cornwell mortuary. 3389 | Wilbur Clyde Copeland, the fourth child of Bernard C. and Margaret Ewing Copeland, he was born on August 18, 1921 on a farm near Idana, Kansas. He passed away on October 20, 2013 at Lenexa, Kansas at the age of 92. He attended the King Country School and Clay Center Community High School. He attended Sterling College for two years, interrupting his studies to join the U.S. Army in 1942. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Carlyle Barracks, Pennsylvania, and was commissioned in the Medical Administration Corps. He served in the South Pacific campaign. On June 15, 1943, in Fresno, California, he married Arvilla E. Walkinshaw of Bostwick, Nebraska. They became the parents of three sons. He was discharged from active duty in 1946, and attended the University of Nebraska, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. From 1948-52 he taught Agriculture classes for the Veterans' Administration. From 1952 until his retirement in 1983, he was employed by Farmland Industries, of Kansas City, MO. He was recognized as an expert in farm safety, and served as President of the National Fertilizer Safety Advisory Board. Mr. Copeland was for many years active as a Ruling Elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church, first in Superior, NE, then Lawrence, KS, and Shawnee, KS. Throughout the 1950s he was active in the Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his wife Arvilla in 2000; by his parents; a sister Beth in 1962, a brother Lloyd in 2011, a sister Jenny in 2011, and a brother Clarke in 2012. He is survived by a brother, Keith (Leu Ann) of Vivian, LA; by his sons Robert (Louise) of Beaver Falls, PA; Stanley (Marilyn) of Clay Center, KS, and Stephen (Ellen) of Columbus, OH; by seven grandchildren: Thomas (Ava) of Beaver Falls, PA; Anne (John) Shaw of Elkins Park, PA; Kathryn (Sean) Donaldson of Belleview, PA; Calvin and his fiancee Kimberly Hertzog of Kansas City; Faith (Jason) Lee of Ft. Riley, KS; David (Patricia) of Ft. Bliss, TX, and Daniel (Tanya) of Huron, SD; fourteen great-grandchildren: Margaret and Ian Copeland; William, Micah, Johanna, Samuel, and Evangeline Shaw; Tristan and Akela Copeland, Samantha and Michelle Lee , Robyn and Thomas Copeland, and Mackenzie Copeland; and by a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was born at Lucian, Okla., on December 11, 1896, son of John and Sara Shield McKeown. December 11, 1919 he married Reva Davis at Mediapolis. They were divorce in 1936. He married Mrs. Ann Kauffman on June 25, 1939 at Wapello. She survives as do his children: Louis Stanley McKeown, Jr., Muscatine; Roger William McKeown, Sioux City; Mrs. Richard (Phyllis Jean) Graff, Jacksonville, Ill., 11 grandchildren; his step-children, Mrs. Raymond Gerdes, Ainsworth; Max Kauffman, Bettendorf; John Kauffman, Maquoketa; 7 step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Avis Daniels, Perry, Okla. 3397 | William Cooper Obituary Rev. William Gerald Cooper, Sr. was born in Gering, Nebraska to Miller and Alta Cooper on August 29, 1926. He graduated from Gering High School and immediately went into the Navy to complete 2 years of service in the South Pacific during WWII. Bill graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Music Education degree in 1951. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Adams in 1949. He worked in the neon sign business for 3 years. Rev. Bill began his career as a United Methodist minister in Pecatonica and German Valley, Illinois while attending Garrett Theological Seminary. He served United Methodist churches in Colorado in Walden, Broomfield, Littleton, Pueblo, Lakewood and Security. He was also a District Superintendent throughout Colorado and Wyoming for 6 years. He retired from active ministry in June, 1991. He and Gwen enjoyed traveling overseas and across the U.S. with their big fifth wheel trailer. He is survived by Gwen, three children and their spouses - Connie and Gilbert Vigil, Gerry and Kerry Cooper and Rich and Barb Cooper. He was also the proud grandparent of 5: Amy, Bill, Kristin, Cory and Andy and one great granddaughter, Solana. Bill Cooper was a "minister" to many in many ways. He loved to sing and people loved to hear him sing. He was a very humble, loving and giving man. We will miss him greatly. 3400 | William G. Cutler's History of the State of Kansas. First published in 1883 by A.T. Andreas, Chicago, IL. Sedgwick County, part 21. Clearwater. This pretty little village was platted in 1872. It is quite off the line of railway communication, and has not grown very much. It is in Ninnescah Township, on the banks of the Ninnescah River, one of the most beautiful streams in Southern Kansas. Clearwater has a postoffice, two general stores, and a blacksmith shop. It has a good class of settlers in and surrounding the village. Biographical sketches - Ninnescah Township. MOSES PARKER, farmer, Section 31, and clergyman, P. O. Beverly, was born in Ireland, in 1826. Is a son of John and Margaret McBridge Parker. Was married in 1858, to Miss Mary Shuck, daughter of William and Elizabeth Sappenfield Shuck. Has eight children - Anna C., Margaret E., John W., Robert L., Elmer E., Ira E., Elmira M., and Charles L. Parker. Came to Kansas in 1876, located on a farm, where he now resides. Owns 480 acres of land. Is engaged in farming and stock raising. Commenced the work of the ministry in 1858; was ordained as pastor of the Huron Baptist Church, in Iowa. Remained pastor for seven years, then went to Carlisle to assist in erecting a church building. Was pastor of the church until the completion of the building. Was appointed missionary for the American Baptist Publication Society, supported by the Burlington and Keokuk Associations. Was engaged in that work for two years, then took the pastorate of two churches in Woodford County, Ill. Remained five years, then removed to Des Moines County, Iowa, remained four years, then moved to Kansas. Since coming to Kansas, has been instrumental in organizing five Baptist Churches. Is Postmaster of Beverly P. O.
