- Dr. Alan Bruce Carter
Raleigh
Dr. Alan Bruce Carter of Raleigh, NC. A beloved husband, physician, and friend. Born in Minneapolis, MN on July 27, 1936 and passed away in Minneapolis on Oct. 28, 2015 with his beloved wife and family by his side. Preceded in death by parents, Col. Philip R. and Garnet Elizabeth Carter; brother-in-law, George Oberstar. Survived by beloved wife, Jane Oberstar-Carter; in-laws, John (Ardeth) Oberstar, Marvin (Elizabeth) Charloff, Leroy (Bernadette) Petrick, Paul Oberstar; many close and loving nieces and nephews. Alan attended Duke University and Duke Medical School where he graduated and became a board certified pediatrician. His pediatric residency was at Colorado General Hospital. He then spent two years as an Army physician in Heidelberg, Germany. He obtained his child and adult psychiatry training at Duke University. Alan attended Duke Chapel and at one time was in the choir. He was in a private practice for many years in Raleigh, NC. He was involved in setting up a number of child treatment programs at various mental health centers. Alan belonged to many medical societies and was active in the West Raleigh Rotary Club. He also was the consultant with a pastoral counseling service for twenty years. His interests were many, but especially medicine, his family, music, and great literature. Alan and Jane had a wonderful life together. We want to thank Dr. Lee, the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Sborov and the Minnesota Oncology staff, and his wonderful family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Sun. Nov. 1 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Edina, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Reception to follow. Private family interment Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, MN.
