- Samantha was known in the family as Auntie Mac. She was one of the three members of the first graduating class of the Burlington hospital school of nursing, in 1899.
- FIRST GRADUATE NURSE - Samantha McKeown, 80. of Mediapolis, pictured (left) as she appeared when she was graduated from first class of Burlington hospital school of nursing in 1899. and right) as she photographed this week by Hawk-Eye Gazette cameraman. She is the only living member of the graduating class of 3, and was on duty as a nurse in the Mediapolis area for many years. The 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Burlington hospital school will be observed Monday night with an open house in the nurses' home in Moir hall, 5th and Court streets.

- OPEN HOUSE AT NURSES' HOME - Nurses of Burlington hospital, and friends of the Institution, will gather at Moir hall (above), at 5th and Court streets, Monday night, for open house commemorating 50th anniversary of hospital's school of nursing. There are four head stones in a row. Small headstone on left is from 3 of the children who died young. It is difficult to read. Next stone to the right is for Mother Anna P, wife of J. G. McKeown. Next stone to the right is for Father John G. McKeown. Stone on the farthest right is for Mary L. dau of J. G. & Ann P. McKeown.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Bennett of Omaha, Neb., Miss Priscilla McKeown of Seattle, Wash, Mrs. [Miss] S.A. McKeown of Mediapolis and Mrs. M.S. Hutchins of Morning Sun, motored as a party, from Mediapolis here, to dine at the U.W.C.A. on Wednesday. Mrs. McKeown recently returned from a six months' visit in California.

- Miss S.A. McKeown, a trained nurse who has been spending the winter months with friends in Washington and California, plans to arrive home Wednesday and will assist with the car of her sister-in-law, Mrs. James McKeown of this vicinity who is very ill in the Burlington hospital.

- Mediapolis nurse dies.
Samantha McKeown, 82, last member of the first graduating class of the Burlington hospital school of nursing, died at her home in Mediapolis today on the 50th anniversary of the founding of that school. Hospital authorities said that an open house at Moir hall, hospital nursing home, will be held tonight as scheduled previously. Miss McKeown was born April 16, 1835, and was a native of the Mediapolis community. She was one of the 3 members who graduated from the hospital nursing school in 1899. Miss McKeown was a member of the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emma Brewster, of Mediapolis, and 2 brothers, M. P. (Parker) McKeown, Mediapolis, and Albert McKeown of St. Louis, Mo. The latter brother only recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. Last rites will be held Wednesday. A service at the house at 1 p.m. will be followed by a service at the Sharon church at 2 p.m.
