- Mary Z. Carter
Cape Girardeau – Service for Mary Z. Carter will be held at the Ford & Sons Funeral Chapel Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Neil Stelin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Carter, 80 years old, of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, April 12, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Aug. 19, 1909 in Duluth, Minn., daughter of John and Bernice Laskowsi Zygmanski.
She married Dr. William Paul Carter on Aug. 24, 1934, in Chicago. He preceded her in death May 6, 1978.
Survivors included a son, Richard P. Carter, Seattle, wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Robert Price of Folsom, Calif.; a brother, Leon Zygmanski, Hibbing, Minn.; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was a graduate of Superior State College in Wisconsin. She taught school in Iron River, Wis., and did her graduate work at the University of Chicago.
She taught several years at Mississippi State University at Starksville. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1963, and taught high school at Cap Central until 1979.
