Notes - Mary Baskerville Sheets
A private memorial service will be held for Mary Baskerville Sheets, who died on May 21, 2000, at the age of 90.
The widow of internationally-recognized artist Millard Sheets, she was an inventive woman who wrote and illustrated books for her children, kept journals of her and Millard’s travels, and sewed masterpieces in stitchery. She created a beautiful home environment, which for over half a century, was a magnet for countless friends and relatives.
Friends remember her as a well-read, urbane and witty conversationalist, the tables she set for her guests were objects of beauty matched by her cuisine.
She made her husband and family the center of her life, ensuring that all would thrive. In her later years, though ailing, she continued to radiate an innate gracious, loving spirit.
She is survived by her four children, Millard Owen Sheets, Jr. of Hawaii, Carolyn S. Owen Towle, of San Diego, David Stary-Sheets of Irvine, California, and John A. (Tony) Sheets of Sebastopol; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial gifts tin her name be made to Redwood Coast Medical Services of Gualala, or Gualala Arts.
Independent Coast Observer, Gualala, California. Friday, 26 May 2000.
