Notes - Ruth Hippensteel Vance
Goshen – Services for Ruth Hippensteel Vance, 88, formerly of 522 S. Third St., who died Thursday morning in Rose Care Center, Fort Smith, Ark., will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Blocker-Harris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Vance was born Sept. 27, 1897, in Elkhart County. On Sept. 27, 1915, she married Ernest Hippensteel. He died in 1924. On Feb. 2, 1945, she married Bert “Curly” Vance. He died May 28, 1978. Surviving are a son, Robert Hippensteel of Mountainberg, Ark.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Sunthimer of Goshen. A son and a brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Vance had been a bookkeeper at Hodgson Hardware, House of Harter and Rieth-Riley Construction Co. She was active in the First United Church of Christ, where she was an organist and directed the choir.
