      Robert Rainey married Mary Wallace on 18 June 1861 and the couple sailed as assisted emigrants to New Zealand. The embarked on the 'Sebastopol' 3 months later, on 5 Sep 1861, arriving in Lyttelton, 14 Dec 1861 .. https://www.yesteryears.co.nz/shipping/passlists/sebastopol.html

      Robert and Mary first resided on Ferry Road then after some years bought land in Lincoln and Tai Tapu where Robert became a successful stock breeder. The Lincoln property was known as 'Lincoln Lodge'. He later became a Justice of the Peace and served on several local committees.

      Robert, Mary and two of their unmarried daughters Annie and Sarah, moved to Mather's Road, Spreydon in 1908. Their third unmarried daughter Martha Lavinia continued to live with her brother Robert Wallace on the farm at Lincoln until his marriage in 1912.

      Mary died 2 Oct 1914 aged 74 years
      Robert died 15 Aug 1934 aged 92 years and is buried with her. [1]
