- Willard Speer Died At Chicago Today
Willard Speer, a former resident of the Superior community, died at the home of his son, John in Chicago, about 4 a.m. this (Thursday) morning. Mr. Speer lived on a farm east of Superior for many years and has many friends here. The funeral service will be held at the Megrue Funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. C.E. Caskey officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen.

- Services Here For Old Resident
Willard L. Speer, who lived in the Superior community for 50 years passed away April 28 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 16 days.
Mr. Speer was born in Cambridge, Ohio, Aug. 12, 1873. When he was six years old, he moved with his folks to Albia, Iowa, and then to Summerfield, Kan., in 1888 when he was 14. Here he joined the United Presbyterian church, at Mission Creek, near Liberty, Neb.
In 1894 he moved with his parents, to a farm three miles east of Superior. He transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church here where it remained until the church was dissolved.
He married Mary Charlotte McConaughy of Superior on March 6, 1900, and to this union were born two sons. After the passing of his wife on May 14, 1944, he went to live with his son, John, in Lincoln, Neb., who moved to Chicago in 1949.
Left to morn his passing are his two sons, John, of Chicago, and Lloyd of Wheaton, Ill.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Rev. C.E. Caskey officiating.
