- Margaret Moranville, known as "Margie", left the confines of this world on Friday October 30, 2015, after a rich and fulfilling life of 90 years. As Margie approached death due to Alzheimer's, she was surrounded by the loving and devoted care of Friends for Life; The Gardens at St. Elizabeth; Wind Crest Continuing Care in Highlands Ranch; Suncrest Hospice; long time friends and family. Due to the efforts of all these people, Margie's final years were made comfortable and happy and, for this, the family will always be eternally grateful. The funeral mass for Margie will take place at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada(12735 W. 58th Ave.) on November 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by reception in the church hall and internment at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.
Margie always referred to herself as "an Arvada girl". Except for the first two years and the last five years of Margie's life, her home was always Arvada, Colorado. All in all, Margie lived 83 years of her life in Arvada. Margie Moranville came from humble stock-the daughter of a coal miner and farmer. She was born in a coal mining camp in a place called Serene Colorado on January 3, 1925 to immigrants from Croatia, Mary and Philip Stefanich. Margie always said, "Yes, I was born in Serene but you can't call me Serene!" Margie was a toddler when her parents brought her to Arvada. She worked along side her two sisters (Kate and Mary) and two brothers (Phil and John) on the Stefanich family truck farm on Simms Road. When Margie wasn't in school at Fremont Elementary or Holy Family High School, she could be found tending livestock (turkeys and cows) or picking asparagus and other crops from dawn to sunset. She always loved gardening as a result, but the great depression and frugality burned in her soul. When WWII came along, she worked in a factory as a "Rosie the Riveter" type gal operating a punch press. In fact, it was at General Iron Works in Denver where Margie met her future husband, Walter Moranville.
Margie waited for Walter for four years while he served in the Merchant Marines. Subsequently, Margie and Walter married in 1946 at St. Ann's in Arvada. After a brief interlude in Denver, the couple moved to Simms Road in Arvada where they built a home on an acre and half of ground given to them by Margie's parents as a wedding gift. On Simms Rd., Margie and Walt raised their two children, Ellen Moranville Clark (born in 1947) and John Moranville (born in 1948). Margie was never a "stay at home Mom". She continued working in a factory-primarily Anderson & Forrester-while her mom, Grandma Mary babysat Ellen and John next door. When Simms Rd. became a busy thoroughfare, Margie moved to a home on West 59th Place in February of 1987. It was the same day her husband,Walter, died.
Margie always supported her church-St. Ann's and later on, St. Joan of Arc. She was on the Finance Committee at St. Ann's Credit Union that later became Northwest Federal Credit Union. Margie took great delight in volunteering for various committees at St. Ann or St. Joan, baking cakes for funerals and being a contributing member of the Senior Group. When people thought of Margie, they often referred to her as a "good partier" and being very generous. For parties, she intensely enjoyed St. Joan of Arc bowling parties with trips to the Red Lobster afterwards. As an aside, Margie was a great bowler with many 300 games to her credit. Her Pinochle card parties - that began when she was a parishioner at St. Ann and continued when she became a member of St. Joan of Arc-functioned for close to 50 years. These gatherings were filled with laughter and enduring friendships. Her many trips with family-primarily to Ireland, Italy and across the west with Devon Moranville; five grandchildren and their spouses - Teresa Clark and her grandson, Will-were always a "party on wheels" and defined by her jokes and story telling. Regarding Margie's generosity of spirit, she had the family record for the number of Afghans crocheted for family and friends (60) and the number of Croatian potica loaves baked at Christmas (dozens). As she lived out her final years at Gardens at St. Elizabeth and Wind Crest, residents and staff at both places always commented on Margie's sunny disposition and how they thoroughly enjoyed being around her. Margie loved her family and friends with all her heart. This love is her abiding legacy.
Margie is survived by: Ellen Clark (daughter)and son-in-law, Bill Clark; John Moranville (son)and daughter-in-law, Dave Ruminski, Samantha Moranville and Steve Liebowitz,Sarah Moranville, Will and Kristin Clark, Abbey Moranville Lasota;two great granddaughters-Antonia Ruminski and Ellie Clark; Margie's sister, Mary Tilp and her husband, Paul Tilp; her sister-in-law, Jean Mund and her husband, Hal; and numerous nieces and nephews across the USA.
Margie always loved gardening, raising her own vegetables and assisting the poor and vulnerable.
