ROCK ISLAND - Herbert V. Gardner, 88, of 1815 43rd St., died Thursday at Franciscan Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Heights United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.
He retired in 1969 as an appliance sales-man after 10 years at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric. Before that, he worked at Schmiers Appliance and International Harvester Co.
During World War II, he was an inspector at Rock Island Arsenal.
He married Hilma Robertson June 22, 1926, in Morning Sun, Iowa.
He attended one year of college at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and two years at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
His memberships included the church. He was very active both there and at Trinity United Methodist Church, Milan, Ill., where he was a former member.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Kathryn Gustafson and Dorothy Tipple, both of Rock Island; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Duane, Michigan City, Ind.

Kathryn V. Gustafson, 85, of Rock Island, her final day came during the eleventh hour, the tenth month, and ninth day of 2013. In September she embarked on a trip to the Northwood's of Minnesota with her sister Dorothy and niece Andrea. Shortly after arriving though, she needed emergency care and was transferred to Duluth. She fought complications, was there 24 days while recuperating, Sue and Bill, being at her side Wednesday morning.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030
