    Tuesday about a dozen farmers of the Mission creek vicinity met at the home of Mrs. Hugh Nelson to help gather and crib her corn. Hereafter when we hear someone say, “where are the good old-time neighbors” we will speak out in meetin’ and say “right here at home.”

    Ida I. Nelson
    Ida Isabelle Dugan, daughter of William and Rosa Dugan, was born near Page Center, Ia., Aug. 21, 1880, and died at Beatrice, Neb., January 25, 1949, at the age of 68 years.
    She was united in marriage to Hugh Gardner Nelson Dec. 16, 1903, at Page Center where she became a member early in life of the United Presbyterian church.
    Following their marriage the Dugans [LKH note: should read "the Nelsons"] moved to Mission Creek, Neb. Born were two daughters and three sons.
    After the death of Mrs. Nelson on June 21, 1924, the family moved to Summerfield, Kan. [LKH note – that should read “death of Mr. Nelson on June 21, 1924”]
    Surviving are her children:
    Mrs. L. Hasenvager, Kansas City, Mo.; Arlo Nelson, Axtell, Kan.; Mrs. Fern Frazee, Diller; William Nelson, Summerfield, and Wayne Nelson, Grand Island; four sisters, two brothers and 13 grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church at Summerfield January 29 with the pastor, Rev. A.J. McConnell, in charge. He was assisted by Rev. W.G. Comin, Pawnee City, a former minister to the decedent.
    Mrs. Eva Green, Mrs. Frank Cully, Mrs. Willis Clark and Mrs. C.R. Steffen, members of the women’s quartet of the Diller Congregational church, sang with Mrs. Roy Eick as accompanist.
    Burial was in the Mission Creek cemetery.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at White Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Sheil Colonial Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Mrs. Hasenyager taught first and second grades at Harrison Elementary School in Kansas City, retiring in 1971. She received a bachelor's degree in education from University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a Presbyterian. Her husband, Virgil Hasenyager , died in 1969. She was born in Liberty, Neb., and lived in this area for 49 years.

    Survivors include a stepson, Clifford Hasenyager , Dusseldorf, Germany, and a stepdaughter, Vita Orth, St. Francis, Kan.

    Arlo E. Nelson, 77,Marysville, who owned and operated the store at Smittyville from 1958 to 1975, died last Thursday at Community Memorial Hospital. Services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Wiand officiating.
    Burial was in the Beattle Union Cemetery with arrangements by Kinsley.
    Vocalist was Stanly Swanson. Pallbearers were Randy Nelson, Max Kice, Randy Schultz, Mike Calloway, Mark Modrell and John Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were Bernard Stueve, Ed Smith, Eugene Porting, Ben Holthaus, Bob Brooks and Howard Anderson.
    Nelson was born Aug. 13, 1906, at Liberty, Neb., to Hughes Nelson and Ida Dugan Nelson. He married Margaret Kooser in 1933. They farmed until 1957, when they began operating the store at Smittyville.
    He was a member of Masonic Lodge No.234.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Ferne; a brother, Wayne; and a grandson, Darren.
    Survivors are his widow of the home; three sons, William of Olathe, Kenneth of Paola and Darrell of Lincoln; a daughter, Arlowyn Cody, Beatrice; a sister, Alice Hasenyager, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, William H. Nelson, Marysville; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

    Services for Mrs. Ferne Nelson Frazee, 69, formerly of this area, who died Sept. 23 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa, were conducted Sept. 27 from the United Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah. The Rev. Frank W. Leeper officiated.
    Burial was in the Mission Creek, Neb., cemetery.
    Mrs. Frazee was born in Liberty, Neb., Feb. 7, 1908, the daughter of Hugh Gardner Nelson and Ida Dugan Nelson.
    She graduated from Liberty High School in 1927, attended Peru State Teachers College, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Washburn University. Her education was concentrated in the field of elementary education. She taught school in Summerfield, Kan., Diller, Neb., and was a substitute teacher in the Riverton school system.
    She was a lifetime member of the Summerfield chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of Shenandoah United Presbyterian Church.
    On July 28, 1937, she and John Howard Frazee wed. They had two children, Willian Hugh and Rosalee Elaine.
    Mrs. Frazee was preceded in death by her son, William Hugh and husband.
    She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Rosalee) Bloomfield; and granddaughters, Ingrid Lea and Mary Frances Bloomfield, all of Uniondale, N.Y.; one sister, Alice Hasenyager of Kansas City, Mo.; and three brothers, Arlo Nelson and Willian Nelson, both of Marysville, and Wayne Nelson of Sommerville, N.J.

    William H. Nelson, 72, 1610 Laramie, died Aug. 4 at Community Memorial Hospital.
    Services were conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. from St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Rosary was said at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Gregory’s.
    The Rev. George Bertels officiated at the funeral and burial was in St. Gregory’s Cemetery. Kinsley was in charge.
    Music was by the church choir. Pallbearers wer Elmer Schwarz, David Schwarz, Francis Voet, Steve Voet, Mert Keller and Francis Taphorn.
    He was born Aug. 19, 1911, at Liberty, Neb., the son of Hugh Gardner and Ida Dugan Nelson, and attended Wymore High School.
    He married Esther Whelan Feb. 8, 1935, and they were the parents of five sons and one daughter.
    He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Gregory’s Church.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and a sister.
    Survivors are his widow of the home; his children, William M. Nelson, Olatha, Jerome Nelson, Tulsa, Herald Nelson, Fairfield, Conn., Norman Nelson, Raytown, Mo., Kathleen Nelson, Downers Grove, Ill., and Jim Nelson, Oketo; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Alice Huysenyager, Kansas City, Mo.

He was the associate national director of personnel for the Boy Scouts of America, for whom he had worked 32 years. He was a member of the Bridgewater, N.J. United Methodist Church. He was a Mason. Mr. Nelson was an Army veteran of World War II. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth M. Nelson of the home; a son, Dr. Kenneth W. Nelson, Prairie Village; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Rae Arthur, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, William Nelson and Arlo Nelson of Marysville, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Hasenyager, Kansas City; and two grandchildren.     Kenneth Nelson, age 76, of rural Paola, Kansas, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at his home.

    Kenneth was born May 8, 1936 at Axtell, Kansas. He was the son of Arlo Emerson & Margaret (Kooser) Nelson. He graduated from Axtell High School in 1954.

    He was united in marriage to Annalee Elder on October 30, 1954 at Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home in Kansas City, Kansas. They moved to their farm at Paola in 1962. They became the parents of four children.

    Kenny worked at Betty Rose Coats and Suits in Kansas City, Missouri from 1954-1955. He then went to work for Inland Cold Storage in Kansas City, Kansas from 1955 until 1967. He worked for Ross Trucking for one year, 1967 to 1968. His career from 1968 until 1985 was with McLean Trucking. Kenny retired from Consolidated Freightways in 1995.

    Kenneth's first love was his cattle and agriculture. He was a member of the Miami County Soil Conservation Board for 16 years where he also served as the Kansas Youth Education Chairperson for 5 years. When Kenny could not be found, Annie could locate him at a local sale barn.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Korrie Jo Kice who died December 18, 1997, and two brothers, Hugh and Darrell Nelson.

    He is survived by his wife Annalee of the home; two daughters Karen (Max) Kice of Paola and Janet Modrell of Conyers, Georgia; two sons Randy (Nancy) Nelson of Kansas City, Kansas and Jim (Becky) Nelson of Paola; one sister Arlowyn Cody of Beatrice, Nebraska; a sister-in-law Shirley Nelson of Lincoln, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren Shelby Johnson, Justin Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Brandon Kice, Adam Nelson Kice, Amanda Hickey, Alex Modrell, Meagan Nelson, and James Tyler Nelson; 10 great grandchildren Ryley Johnson, Ava Johnson, Nicholas Arlo Nelson, Wyatt Eugene Nelson, Zeke Johnson, Ashdon Kice, Parker Nelson Kice, Connor Logan Kice, Kaiden Eugene Williams, and Madelyn Jo Hickey; many relatives and friends.

    Arlowyn I. was born May 23, 1938 at Axtell, KS to Arlo and Margaret (Kooser) Nelson.

    She graduated from Axtell High School in 1956, after which she moved to Beatrice, NE.

    On October 19, 1958 Arlowyn and Paul Cody were married. They were blessed with three daughters.

    She remained in Beatrice except for when her husband Paul was in the Army.

    Arlowyn was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, Beatrice. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, flowers, cooking, Bingo, Rummy and spending time with family and grandchildren.

    Arlowyn I. Cody, 78, of Beatrice died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Beatrice Community Hospital.

    Arlowyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her 3 brothers: William, Kenneth and Darrell Nelson.

    Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Monday November 28, 2016 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Schutt officiating. A family prayer service will be at 1:15 PM. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, NE. Visitation at Harman-Wright Mortuary Saturday 2-8 pm and Sunday Noon-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8pm. Memorials are suggested to Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice.

He joined the U.S. Army after high school and served in Frankfurt, Germany for three years. Following military service he graduated from Rockhurst College. Jerold worked for Mobil Oil Corporation for 35 years in the Kansas City Credit Card Center, and corporate offices in New York, NY and Fairfax, VA. In retirement he enjoyed fishing.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill, twin brother Jerome, and Norman. Jerold is survived by his wife of 54 years Darlene; daughter Teresa (Kevin) Vap; sons Brian (Karen) Nelson and Terry Nelson; grandchildren Grady and Margaret Vap; sister Kathleen (David) Ayres; brother Jim (Sylvia) Nelson; sisters-in-law Ruth Nelson, Mary Anne Nelson and Diane Nelson; extended family and friends.

    NELSON -- Jerome H., died September 8, 2003, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a longtime Tulsa businessman and volunteer with several community organizations and events. Known as "Jerry" to many friends, he was born in Summerfield, KS, on November 10, 1936. He joined the Army after graduating from Summerfield High School and later was honorably discharged. In 1956 Jerome began his professional career in Kansas City with Skelly Oil Company. He moved to Tulsa in 1963 and stayed with the company as it transitioned to Getty Oil Co. and Texaco. He was an Information Systems Manager when he retired in 1993.

    Jerome was a loving and devoted husband, father and mentor. He found his granddaughters, Nicole and Taylor to be the "light of his life." He was a kind, compassionate, caring person and devout Catholic. He taught his children to love and enjoy sports. He enjoyed a good laugh and the outdoors, especially fishing. He was an active community volunteer with his daughter, devoting many hours to Tulsa's annual Halloween parade, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Tulsa International Mayfest.

    Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and William H. Nelson and brother, William M. Nelson. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Anne of the home; his daughter, Sharon Nelson of Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Becky Nelson of Tulsa; son, Kerry Nelson; and 2 beautiful granddaughters, Nicole and Taylor Nelson of Tulsa; also brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerold and Darlene Nelson of Liberty, MO, Norman and Diane Nelson of Raytown, MO, Jim and Sylvia Nelson of Breman, KS; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and David Ayres of Downer's Grove, IL; sister-in-law, Ruth Nelson of Olathe, KS; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Tony Tartol of Chicago, IL, Peggy and Norman Grajek of Crystal Lake, IL and John and Dorothy Brady of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law Ellie Cypert of Eureka Springs, Ark.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

    Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st St. A Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1436 N. 67th E.     Notes:

    Norman Nelson was born in the small farming community of Summerfield, Kan., on December 15, 1938, to William and Esther (Whelan) Nelson, who both preceded him in death. Norman was the fourth oldest of six children. He married Diane Walker of Clinton, Oklahoma on February 8, 1964, at St. James Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. They had two sons - Michael and Gary.

    At Summerfield High School, Norman played both football and basketball. After his graduation in 1956, he entered the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he served at several military installations around the United States, as well as serving a tour of duty in Korea. Receiving an honorable discharge in September, 1959, he returned home to Summerfield. Eventually, Norman arrived in Kansas City, Mo., seeking a new career. He was hired as a Patrolman by the Kansas City Police Department. Norman completed the Police Academy in April 1960. He held many positions with the Department over his 28-year career. The last positions he held were as helicopter observer and pilot, positions he held from 1970 until his retirement in 1988. Not content to retire, he undertook a second career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as a Senior Protection Officer. Norman worked for the Federal Reserve from 1988 until his second retirement in 2003. Having completed two careers, he enjoyed devoting more time to hunting, fishing and watching Jayhawk basketball.

    Norman is survived by Diane, his wife of 43 years; Michael and Sandy Nelson of Peculiar, Mo.; Gary and Angela Nelson of Holts Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, and 13 nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tues., Jan. 16, at Sheil Colonial Chapel, 11924 E. 47th St.; burial to follow at Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be Mon., Jan. 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Sheil Colonial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Police Care Team c/o Major Patty Higgins, 1125 Locust, KCMO 64106.
